- ➤ On Jun. 1, the Sole to City run benefited local non-profits in downtown Youngstown as runners came together to support community charities. WFMJ
- ➤ On Monday, June 1, the community held a parade for 17-year-old Mineral Ridge student Chris Dourm, who returned home after over 20 days at the Cleveland Clinic for rare cancer treatment; a plane spelled his name as supporters promoted a 'Take Them A Meal' forum to help his family. WFMJ
- ➤ Events include a ribbon cutting for ReNew U Therapy & Wellness in Youngstown Friday at 11 a.m., FirstLight Home Care relocating in Liberty, Ashley Furniture's grand opening Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Niles, Shark Tank launch party Thursday at Penguin City Brewing, and The Book Nook opening Saturday in Warren. - ➤ Dude’s Chicken opened Monday, June 1 at 10 a.m. in Liberty Township at 3225 Belmont Ave. The new restaurant offers halal dishes like rice bowls, shawarma, and loaded fries combos and celebrated its debut with a ribbon cutting attended by local Chamber members. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sharon Tiger Techs Robotics Team earned a global award for teamwork at the FIRST LEGO League Western Edge Invitational in California, finishing a nine-month season. Coach Dave Tomko received coach of the year while the 10-member team advanced from Pennsylvania (their Retract-A-Meter tool impressed judges). WFMJ
- ➤ McKinley Memorial Library in Niles was awarded a federal grant from the State Library of Ohio to cover 75% of costs for two summer reading events. The grant funds a reading kickoff with Pony Time Ranch on Saturday and a finale with Moonstone Mining Company on Aug. 1 (staff report). Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Girard school officials approved a shared services deal with Liberty to share a bus mechanic, effective July 1 to June 30, 2027. The deal will save both districts money and address Liberty’s need for skilled service. Tribune Chronicle
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Transportation officials reported highway projects affected travel in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. In Mahoning, the ramp from State Route 46 to westbound Interstate 80 closed Monday until early August while in Trumbull, U.S. Route 62 work caused lane restrictions and detours with southbound State Route 7 closed until early July. WFMJ
- ➤ Regular drivers on Market Street in Youngstown will face one-lane restrictions starting today due to an emergency sewer repair between Breaden Street and Falls Avenue; the lane reduction impacts both directions and will remain in effect for about one week. WFMJ

- ➤ Fitch softball team is set to compete in the state final four matchup after a strong playoff run + they will face top competitors at the state tournament soon. WFMJ
