- ➤ On Monday, a 16-year-old testified in Mahoning County Juvenile Court that on March 23 his brother, 19-year-old Keondre Lewis, and his 14-year-old cousin were in a home on Rhoda Avenue when a gunshot was heard downstairs—police later took the cousin into custody as prosecutors seek probable cause to try him as an adult for murder. - ➤ A Youngstown woman, Jennifer Mondora, 46, led Liberty police on a high-speed chase Friday after officers spotted her in a Dollar General parking lot and confirmed her active warrants from several agencies, as her gray Honda CR-V reached speeds of 100 MPH or more and nearly collided with another vehicle. - ➤ Maureen Collins, who began her career at the Playhouse and wants a plaque reading No one loved this place more, will host the centennial gala on June 21 at 7:30 p.m. The gala will feature about 40 singers & 20 actors with historical photos shown from the theater archives, marking the end of a year-long celebration. - ➤ The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association is fundraising to raise $37,000 to purchase and move diesel locomotive McDonald Steel number 777 from the dismantled McDonald Steel facility. - ➤ MS Consultants contributed $5,000 to the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber Foundation as part of an $8,000 allocation to support downtown Youngstown’s reboot initiative led by the Economic Action Group—this is the firm’s second investment following its 2024 gift. - ➤ The Carl Nunziato VA Clinic will host its first annual Vet Fest on Saturday, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1815 Belmont Ave. The event will bring veterans, active-duty military, and families together with VA representatives — who will answer enrollment questions and provide updates on the PACT Act — and community partners. - ➤ Youngstown community leaders and county officials oppose a plan to move the Board of Elections from Oak Hill Renaissance Place to a new building in Austintown, saying the shift could make it harder for local voters to access essential services. At a recent county meeting, Rev. Ken Simon—chair of the Greater Youngstown Community Mobilization Coalition—and Councilwoman Anita Davis urged commissioners to hold local hearings and consider alternatives, while no final decision has been made. - ➤ Youngstown is upgrading 18 parks and playgrounds by adding new playground equipment, lighting and security cameras while replacing worn picnic tables and grills.
