- ➤ In Struthers, nearly 80 addresses participated in a citywide garage sale that started Friday and will run through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Unsold items will be donated to Habitat for Humanity on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. WKBN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested Abigail Rivera at about 4 a.m. Thursday on the East Side after a woman was shot near North Garland Avenue and recovered a rifle and handgun from her car; she was booked on a charge of felonious assault and is set for arraignment on Friday. WYTV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Trumbull County African American Achievers Association has been hosting its Heritage Festival from June 6th to June 8th in downtown Warren's Courthouse Square to celebrate African American culture and achievement. Today, the event features vendors, food trucks and a parade at 10:30 a.m.—other activities include dedications and live music throughout the day. WFMJ
- ➤ The Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre and Covelli Centre have a full schedule of concerts and festivals planned for summer and fall. The amphitheatre will host the Simply Slavic Festival starting June 14 and an 80s tour on June 28 while the Covelli Centre is set for live tapings and concerts later—organizers say these events will boost downtown activity. - ➤ Washington reintroduced legislation to restore pensions for Delphi retirees, with Ohio Senators Bernie Mereno and Jon Husted and Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman supporting the bill. If passed, nearly 5,000 retirees will receive a 15-year lump sum for benefits—plus 6% interest. WKBN
- ➤ Mahoning Valley leaders will hold a news conference today at Austintown Township Hall on Ohltown Road at 3 p.m. to discuss state law that may lower the share local communities earn from marijuana taxes+State Rep. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Defense gave final authorization to spend $25 million to build a new fire station at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station to support the base’s transition to new C-130J aircraft. - ➤ Mahoning Valley Sanitary District received only one bid from Thalle Construction to renovate the 93-year-old Meander Reservoir Dam for $106 million, which is 80 percent above the estimated $59 million needed to update a water source for 220,000 customers. Officials will hire a consultant for a constructability review and plan to rebid the project by the end of the year while a water rate increase that could exceed 13 cents per 1,000 gallons is expected.
