COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced during weekend masses that St. Brendan's Church and Our Lady of Sorrows will merge with St. Christine’s beginning January 2026—The diocese decided on the merger due to fewer priests and declining attendance and will hold a town hall on June 24 to explain the changes.  WFMJ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • In Liberty, a house at 3801 Northlawn Drive exploded Saturday night when illegal fireworks triggered two powerful blasts that critically injured two men and a 4-year-old girl—fire crews rescued the victims and later secured the property after removing remaining explosives.  Tribune Chronicle
  • A 55-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle crash Friday at 5:51 p.m. at the intersection of Southern and Midlothian boulevards on South Side as one car flipped over and its driver was declared dead while the other driver was unharmed—police are investigating the crash.  The Vindicator

CRIME NEWS

  • Youngstown Police responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday to Gibson and Poland Avenues when they found 28-year-old Raymond Butler fatally shot in his vehicle and urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or the police department.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Simply Slavic festival in Youngstown, local bakers showed off family recipes when a first-time competitor won for his Croatian kifli and another from Boardman earned third place for her nut and raisin kolachi. The event runs Friday and Saturday at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre—volunteers are needed to help with setup and support.  The Vindicator
