- ➤ Judge John Durkin denied former Austintown Trustee and Poland Township officer Steve Kent's second early release request on his tampering with evidence conviction—Kent made his new request on May 15 after a previous denial in December. WKBN
- ➤ Columbiana County Jail guard David James Ferguson-Grantz, accused of assaulting inmates in 2024 by throwing one inmate to the floor and pushing another up stairs, will face a jury trial on July 2 at 8:30 a.m. WFMJ
- ➤ Whittington Davis could not withdraw his April guilty plea to felonious assault when Judge Anthony D’Apolito read a 7th District Court ruling at a Tuesday hearing—he has yet to announce his decision, and his case follows an incident on West Federal Street where Davis allegedly pushed a woman, injuring her wrist. - ➤ The federal government told a judge it agrees to let Youngstown scale down its wastewater project to an 80-million-gallon-per-day facility after the city compressed the schedule and added work including a diversion to the Mahoning River — the amendment will be filed soon for a 30-day public comment period. City officials will file a motion by Friday to withdraw their earlier request as federal and state agencies review public feedback. The Vindicator
- ➤ Trumbull County Auditor Martha Yoder, who is recovering from a bicycle accident, said she will use her own money to fund her appeal against Bazetta Township—challenging a judge's ruling that the township owes over $80,000 after an email scam redirected tax funds to a fake account; she filed her appeal on April 28 and county commissioners will review her proposal soon. - ➤ Mahoning County jail was named as one of 13 jails that received a $200,000 grant for addiction treatment for inmates, Attorney General Dave Yost announced Tuesday. The grant program now covers 26 counties statewide+ it will help jails fund addiction services for inmates in recovery. WYTV
- ➤ Mayor Tito Brown questioned Councilwoman Amber White’s residency as she owns a house in Liberty with her estranged husband even though she showed proof to the law department confirming her Youngstown residence when she was sworn in for the Seventh Ward in 2023—the law department will hire an outside investigator to address the concerns raised by taxpayers.
