COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After a five-year break, the Christ Our Savior Parish Festival returns at St. Nick’s Church in Struthers—kicking off tonight at 6 p.m. and featuring food, rides, games, and live music while local police secure the event—to offer a full celebration for the community.  WKBN

CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old man was fatally shot in the 900 block of Lanterman Avenue near Lanterman's Mill early today—police arrived at 12:05 a.m. and no arrests have been made as investigators continue the homicide probe.  Tribune Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trumbull County Historical Society will run a Hands-On History Summer Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 7 to 9 at Center Brook Manor in North Bloomfield for children ages 6 to 12. Participants will learn about pioneer life, the Revolutionary War, archaeology & the Underground Railroad for $60 including all materials and activities.  The Vindicator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Girard will honor local veteran Kenneth David with a public sign dedication on June 30—he received the Congressional Medal of Honor earlier this year for his Vietnam War service.  WFMJ
  • Youngstown City Council approved a $120,000 performance audit of the city’s police and fire departments at its Wednesday meeting & the Ohio Auditor of state will review overtime, scheduling and cruiser use after a request from Sixth Ward Councilwoman Anita Davis. The Council also voted against purchasing 11 new police vehicles.  WFMJ
  • The Newton Falls Police Department will resume work on July 1 with Chief John Barco and 20 part-time officers as the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office ends its daily service on June 30. The department will guard the Fourth of July Festival and manage traffic on July 4—officials said local funds and grants cover police expenses.  Tribune Chronicle
