- ➤ On Saturday, local siblings Annalise and Jordan Kenyon hosted the fourth annual Aunt Mimi’s Lemonade Stand at Penguin City Brewing Co. to raise funds for police K9 unit body armor—collecting over $7,000 to buy 13 vests while officers from Boardman, Canfield and Youngstown State University came to support the event. - ➤ Mill Creek MetroParks is hosting a Coffee Talk & Tour at Lanterman's Mill every Wednesday in July from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that costs $10 per person and offers a complimentary coffee, tea, or hot chocolate; older children must join with an adult and registration must be completed two days before the tour. - ➤ 21 News won two Emmy awards at the 56th Annual Central Great Lakes Emmy Awards in Indianapolis. News anchor Lindsay McCoy earned an award for her report on the Realty explosion on May 28, 2024 and the program 101 West - Invisible Chains was honored for its report on human trafficking in the Mahoning Valley (which recognized team members Sydney Canty, Ron Martin, Alan Brooks, Matt Stone, Justin Mitchell and Sheila Miller). - ➤ Liberty Local Schools announced that PAWWS, the beloved therapy dog, passed away after eight years of comforting students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her owner, school counselor Kristie Sallee, said the dog made classrooms feel more nurturing. WYTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ In Poland, workers removed the old Graffiti Bridge after heavy rains damaged it and forced urgent repairs to a leaking sanitary sewer line. The county will bid the new truss bridge construction on June 30—bids will open on July 25 and the bridge, which will be 10 feet wide, is planned for completion by March 2026 to allow connector paving to meet grant deadlines. - ➤ Between June 9 and 13, Mahoning County granted marriage licenses to several couples from Youngstown and nearby areas—such as Dominic Joseph Cheffo, 23, and Adrienne Lee Elliott, 20—with additional records listing other couples by age and hometown. The Vindicator

- ➤ Brookfield Township trustees met Friday to review a plan by the Brookfield Youth Baseball & Softball League to add lights to two fields at Brookfield Community Park at 7291 Stewart-Sharon Road—League President Lucy said $50,000 to $60,000 is already set aside for the project. Trustees will propose a formal resolution on July 7 and consider adding parking lot lighting; if approved, the project will be completed by fall. WFMJ
