COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The third annual 7th Ward 4th of July parade was held on Saturday, June 28th from Shady Run Road to Boston Avenue in Youngstown—led by Grand Marshal Josie Lyon to honor a long-standing neighborhood tradition. Today, the Midlothian Bike Run will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at Youngstown Playhouse to raise bike lane safety awareness.  WKBN
  • Poland Village community members gathered at the Council Hall at 9:30 a.m. on June 28 to share ideas for the library building if it relocates. Council members noted that any new use will require zoning changes—some suggested government offices while others wanted the library to remain in the village.  WFMJ

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal Judge Cathy Bissoon sentenced Youngstown resident Antoine Tate to 106 months in prison and six years of supervised release for drug trafficking and possessing a loaded firearm during his October 31st, 2020 attempt to flee police in New Castle (charges included fentanyl, cocaine and oxycodone).  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local educators, students, and community members are walking through Salem during Teach Truth Day to learn about the town’s role in the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad. The event comes as local teachers express concerns over Senate Bill 1 and other new laws that may limit lessons on America’s controversial history — raising fears that important local history may be lost.  WFMJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio’s BMV saved over 10 million trips with online tools—letting customers renew licenses, order tags, and schedule exams without long waits. The upgrades began in 2019 and modernized the agency’s services for Ohio drivers.  WKBN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Doctors announced that the FDA approved a new blood test for adults over 55 with memory problems, which may help start treatments sooner—this test also assists in distinguishing Alzheimer’s disease from other conditions for faster clinical trial enrollment.  WKBN
