The Diocese celebrated long marriages at St. Columba Cathedral on Sunday, honoring 81 couples married between 25 and 75 years in a special Mass.

Mary Teresa and John Gabriele from Poland, married for 75 years, were recognized as the longest-married couple and may qualify for a Guinness record.

On Saturday, Legacy Dog Rescue and Never Muzzled hosted a pet oxygen mask fundraiser at Quaker Steak & Lube Austintown to help supply fire departments in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The event raised about $30,000 to buy 240 masks and collected over 700 lbs of pet food.

Brenda Linert of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber said the Valley faces a housing shortage—slowed construction since 2008 has led to buyers purchasing homes sight unseen and difficulties attracting new residents.

The chamber’s housing council, launched last year, will push for changes to boost local construction.
