ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A motorcyclist from Vienna Township was killed in Hubbard Township when he was struck around 1 p.m. on July 2 at the intersection of U.S. Route 62 and Franklin Avenue by a Toyota Scion xB driven by 76-year-old Virginia Dickey from New Jersey—he was not wearing a helmet while Dickey was unharmed. - ➤ The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash in Hubbard Township on Wednesday when Russell Davis, 63, was killed after his motorcycle collided on U.S. 62 as the car—driven by a 76-year-old New Jersey woman—failed to yield at a stop sign. WKBN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Youngstown police arrested James Blackwell III, 25, after he was spotted on Market Street with a loaded handgun and 14 ecstasy pills while wanted on a domestic violence warrant—he was booked on multiple felony charges and his preliminary hearing is set for July 9. WKBN
- ➤ Scottie White, Jr., 42, of Dover, who was released from prison in 2024 after serving 16 years for violent crimes, was arrested on June 26 during an undercover sex sting and now faces charges of prostitution, possession of criminal tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia while being held on a $10,000 bond in Columbiana County Jail + the Adult Parole Authority has placed a hold on him for a parole violation. - ➤ The Butler Institute of American Art is offering a rare look behind the scenes at how Alfred Leslie made his large oil painting 'Americans: Youngstown, Ohio' which now joins the museum's permanent collection— a rare photo shows Leslie arranging models and keeping their shoes in place during breaks. Dr. Lou Zona, the museum’s executive director, said Leslie was inspired by a Star Wars movie line and used strong light and dark to create drama. WFMJ

- ➤ A state report from the Office of Workforce Development predicted that the Youngstown-Warren area will see a 1.76% annual drop in nonfarm employment over the next six months — the second steepest decline in Ohio. April figures show a slight rise in payroll numbers, a 56.2% surge in unemployment claims, and an 8.6% drop in new housing permits. WFMJ

- ➤ Newton Falls fell silent Thursday morning when water normally flowing over the falls stopped as calls poured in and Mayor David Hanson said he suspected the issue came from West Branch — officials are checking the cause ahead of today's Fourth of July parade. WKBN
- ➤ South Schenley Ave in Youngstown is closed to northbound traffic between Canfield Road and Kirk Road due to an emergency sewer repair, and officials say the road will reopen Monday, July 7—traffic to St. Christine's is maintained. WFMJ
- ➤ Ohio is investing nearly $2 million to add sidewalks in Poland and Liberty townships to improve pedestrian safety. Poland Township will get ($935,000) to add sidewalks along State Route 170 while Liberty Township will receive ($1,050,000) for improvements along State Route 193 in 2028. WFMJ
