- ➤ On Sunday, the Persayus Way Project hosted its second annual Summer Cookout to honor children lost to gun violence by celebrating 10-year-old Persayus Davis-May’s birthday and offering free food, fun and resources to local kids—community groups and the fire department also attended to support families. - ➤ Hubbard Farmers Market has reopened for its 11th season at the Roosevelt Student Wellness Center on Orchard Avenue SE, where 30 local vendors offer food, treats, jewelry, and barbecue. Market manager Daniel Bancroft said buying local helps keep money in the community—supporting local entrepreneurs every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through September. WKBN
- ➤ A girl named Paisley Garrett ran a lemonade stand in Struthers on Saturday that raised over $350 for St. Jude Hospital—she donated all the money to help kids with cancer after thinking of her aunt who passed away from the disease. - ➤ 82-year-old Carl New-Hensley served 4.5 years in the Navy during the Vietnam War and calls himself a Gold Star child after his father died in combat on November 11 during World War II — he has worked with Gold Star Families to set up a memorial in Mentor — to honor fallen soldiers.
