- ➤ Liberty township fire officials said a house explosion on June 7 killed 34-year-old Justin Braun and left a man and a 4-year-old in critical condition, while the ATF and State Fire Marshal continue to investigate (with findings expected up to a year) and police have recovered stolen items to secure the scene. - ➤ A West Side man, Gerald Baytos, 59, was arrested Sunday for a fourth felony domestic violence charge after a woman said he assaulted her outside a Mahoning Avenue restaurant when she refused to let him drive her car—he is set for a preliminary hearing on July 14 following his Monday arraignment. - ➤ Youngstown City Schools revealed a new mascot, logo, and updated school names as part of a plan to merge its high and middle schools. The changes will take effect in the 2026-27 school year as students and community members help shape the district's future identity. WFMJ

- ➤ Howland Township will receive $621,250 from state transportation investments to upgrade Mines Road and improve a County Highway 69 intersection for future job growth + enhanced freight operations. The Mines Road project will add a left-turn lane and traffic signal expected to support 205 new jobs and retain 360, while the County Highway 69 improvement will aid a new Kimberly-Clark facility investment.
