- ➤ Youth from Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown are traveling to Washington, D.C. to present their mental health advocacy project at the Summit for America's Youth after meeting with Ohio state representatives in Columbus, and they will compete for a $5,000 grant to expand their COPE program. WFMJ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, a fight with 15 to 20 people at the Trumbull County Fair ended when a mounted officer tried to clear the crowd and a juvenile punched her horse and resisted arrest, leading to charges for assault and resisting arrest, officials said. WKBN
- ➤ In a rolling fight over a man on April 1 near St. Elizabeth Health Center on Belmont Avenue, police arrested two women and Judge R. Krichbaum sentenced Al Jonae Phillips (27) to 90 days in jail as part of her probation while a pretrial for Joesie Mascarella (28) is set for July 24. WKBN
- ➤ Mahoning County OVI Task Force and Ohio State Highway Patrol held a sobriety checkpoint from 10 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday near 1051 S. Raccoon Road in Austintown—414 vehicles passed and officers made 12 traffic stops, issuing citations that included felony charges for drug abuse, fleeing and eluding, and obstruction along with citations for driving under suspension, adult restraint, texting while driving, falsification and improper display of plates. - ➤ A Struthers man, Walter Bolt, 65, pleaded guilty Monday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated vehicular assault after a March 3 crash in Springfield Township killed Angela Brown, 44, and her 15-year-old son—sentencing will take place on Sept. 16 and his plea includes a lifetime license suspension. - ➤ Police arrived at 3:50 a.m. Monday on Kenmore Avenue after a woman heard gunshots—her car suffered bullet holes and witnesses saw people fleeing—and officers later found nine .223-caliber casings at the scene with no injuries reported. WKBN
- ➤ The Weathersfield Police Department said they were seeking a vehicle linked to a drive-by shooting that happened just after 3 a.m. Monday—police reached a home at Westwood Lake Trailer Park after shots were fired—and no one was hurt. WKBN
