- ➤ Weathersfield Township opened four new pickleball courts earlier this week and they are ready for play. The courts cost $150,000 from ARPA funds and are behind the gazebo at the township’s Community Park off state Route 46—trustee Edward Whittaker said the sport offers fun for all ages and abilities. - ➤ Chase Miller, a Niles teen battling a brain tumor, is getting radiation therapy while earning his learner’s permit. The community will hold a golf fundraiser at Bedford Trails on August 17 at 7 a.m.—organizer Matt Morales said more teams, food and auction donations are needed to help his family cover treatment expenses. - ➤ A Niles business owner, Brian Votino, pleaded guilty to bribing a former Warren city prosecutor in a federal court on Wednesday—Votino remains free on bond while sentencing is pending a presentence investigation. WYTV
- ➤ Brian Votino, a Niles auto repair shop owner, pleaded guilty in federal court to a conspiracy charge for bribing a former Warren prosecutor—sentencing will be set after a presentence investigation—and his co-defendant Nick Graham is scheduled to begin trial on August 18 while both remain free on bond. - ➤ A West Side man, Gerald Baytos, 59, facing his fourth felony domestic violence charge, waived his preliminary hearing in municipal court on Thursday—he was arrested on July 6 after allegedly assaulting a woman at a Youngstown home and his case is now bound over to a grand jury. WYTV

- ➤ The 2025 Out of Reach report released Thursday shows full-time workers in Ohio need to earn $22.51 an hour to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment, while the average earnings are $18.62 an hour—a gap that has grown 148% since the pandemic began. Only four of the 15 most common jobs now pay above this required wage, leaving about 1.2 million workers unable to cover rising rental costs. WKBN

- ➤ YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s board of control voted 3-0 on Thursday to pay $10,008 to the Mahoning County sheriff for costs tied to buying the failed Chill-Can property, with Judge John M. Durkin confirming the sale on July 2. The city bought the 21-acre site at a Feb. 18 sheriff’s sale for a minimum of $1,379,580 and the mayor plans to turn it into an industrial park. The Vindicator
