- ➤ Falls Playground on Falls Avenue underwent $525,000 in renovations and reopened Wednesday after receiving funds from a $10.5 million ARP allocation for park improvements. - ➤ A Girard man—Christopher R. Hunter, 45—pleaded guilty to felony strangulation for a domestic violence incident on Nov. 1 and was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison by a Trumbull County judge, even though the victim later said the injury was accidental. The Vindicator
- ➤ Brandan Jones, 32 years old, faced arraignment at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday after a Hubbard police standoff involving a hostage situation and is charged with aggravated menacing and other offenses—his pre-trial is set for August 14 at 9:00 a.m. WFMJ

- ➤ Poland Township Police Department welcomed its second K-9 unit—Sal—during a swearing-in ceremony at the Poland Government Center on Wednesday at 6 p.m.; Chief Greg Wilson said Sal, found wandering on the south side of Youngstown, passed state certification and will work night shifts to help the department maintain full coverage. - ➤ A coalition of Mahoning Valley citizens met Wednesday morning at the Mahoning County Courthouse to demand clear accountability for how the Public Library spends funds — calling for more local control over board appointments and clarity on expenditures on nontraditional amenities. The group argued that spending on areas like craft and kitchen spaces diverts funds from core services, while library officials maintained that modern services are needed to support changing community needs. - ➤ Health officials confirmed La Crosse virus in a 66-year-old man from Uhrichsville as wet summer weather increased mosquito populations (the virus can cause encephalitis).
