- ➤ Hartford Orchard’s annual Sunflower Festival began Saturday—showcasing about 100,000 sunflowers on 5 acres—and it continues through next weekend to raise funds for Grief and Loss in Motion while allowing families to honor loved ones by hanging their photos. - ➤ United Way of Youngstown & Mahoning Valley revived polo in the area with a Polo Cup held yesterday at Chippers Driving Range in Austintown after a gap of 20 years. - ➤ A 21-year-old motorcyclist from Kent was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Friday night in Braceville Township — he struck a Jeep Commander turning left at the intersection of State Routes 5 and 534 and later died at the hospital. WKBN
- ➤ Youngstown firefighters responded to a building fire on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. at 171 West Indianola Avenue—no injuries were reported and officials said the cause remains unknown. WFMJ

- ➤ MAGNET is taking applications until Aug. 18 for the Mspire Pitch Competition, a contest for manufacturing innovation that offers over $85,000 in prizes and includes a $10,000 award for fresh ideas, with live pitches set for Oct. 16. Sierra will open its sixth store at Howland Commons at 8 a.m. on Aug. 9 with a grand opening and a $10,000 donation to Trumbull Mobile Meals, while attorney John Petrony and Hynes Industries were honored, Youngstown State students returned from a study tour in Japan, and Amy Teter will train staff at Mega Barre. - ➤ A Canfield man, Matthew Carleton Brocker, 36, was indicted on two counts of second-degree felonious assault and one count of fourth-degree vehicular assault after a March 2 crash on U.S. Route 224 in Boardman injured driver Anthony Viviano when Brocker’s speeding 2024 Toyota Camry hit his 2008 Nissan Sentra, causing it to strike a curb and land on a sidewalk; witnesses said he then fled on foot and resisted arrest. - ➤ Several roads in Mahoning and Columbiana counties will close next week for construction—Southern Boulevard in Boardman, part of Shields Road in Canfield, Seacrist Road in Goshen Township, and Renkenberger Road in Beaver Township are affected—starting Monday. They will reopen between Tuesday and Friday—State Route 45 in Columbiana County will also be closed from Monday for a slope stabilization project, weather permitting—. WKBN

- ➤ The 12th annual Black Men’s Wellness Day rally held on Saturday morning in Youngstown offered free health screenings & activities for kids and seniors to help over 250 community members learn about their health risks.
