COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local motorcycle group, Wings Over the Valley, is hosting a Charity Motorcycle Ride on Saturday — their second annual Christmas Toy Drive aims to bring toys to hundreds of kids. About 200 bikes will join as registration begins at 10 a.m. at East Side Civics — the ride leaves at noon and returns by 5 p.m. with a goal to raise $10,000 to purchase 5,000 toys.  WKBN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Foxconn sold its Lordstown facility to Crescent Dune, LLC on Monday and said it will keep running the plant as part of a broader AI effort that includes the Stargate project for a large-scale AI ecosystem + Project ETA to boost data center production. It remains unclear how these plans will shape the future of the former GM assembly plant.  WFMJ

CRIME NEWS

  • Caden Moffo, 20, was arraigned on two misdemeanor domestic violence charges in Boardman after police reported he pulled a BB gun shaped like a Glock and threw bleach on a woman just after 1 a.m. Sunday—he is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 2.  WKBN
  • Kiarra Jackson pleaded guilty to gun and drug charges and was sentenced to two to three years in prison after officers stopped her on Terrace Drive on March 20 (she used her cellphone and Apple Watch and tried to bite an officer when they tried to take them) while her car held a handgun, methamphetamine, eight pills and drug paraphernalia (a protection order bars her from having a firearm).  WKBN
  • Two men accused of kidnapping a woman in Poland Township were arraigned in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court with bonds set at $50,000 each—both pleaded not guilty and are not allowed to contact the victim; their trial is set for September 22.  WKBN
  • Robert E. Wilson III, 35, was arraigned Monday afternoon in Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of two felony weapons offenses, felony obstructing official business, and being a felon in possession of a firearm after he allegedly harassed a church member near St. Dominic Church on Sunday morning by throwing a bottle and asking the victim to fight—bond was set at $15,000 and he returned for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Monday.  The Vindicator
  • Warren Mayor William Doug Franklin held a Tuesday press conference to address a weekend of shootings that left one person dead and said authorities will hold perpetrators accountable. He said officials will soon file nuisance paperwork to close the Convenient Food Mart to stop after-hours violence — anyone with information is urged to contact police.  WKBN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley is holding its second Camp FRIEND at AST Discovery Space in downtown Youngstown to help autistic teens and young adults ages 14 to 22 build career skills by learning coding, 3D printing and teamwork + practice reasoning with a space exploration challenge. The weeklong camp teaches tools like Scratch, Canva and TinkerCAD and will run until Friday.  WKBN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Township trustees debated moving a $100,000 donation from the Cafaro Foundation into the proper fund to restart emergency medical services without incurring new debt, and fiscal officials plan to update appropriations by Aug. 18 so that ambulance services can begin in January 2026 — a move following the recent fire levy approval. This decision comes as officials work to balance new funding with strategies to reduce debt.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Youngstown and Liberty officials have begun a project to revitalize a 4.7-mile stretch of Belmont Avenue by hiring consultants to study commercial use, traffic issues, and pedestrian safety. The corridor plan—designed to be a guidebook with beautification and funding recommendations—will be completed by October 2026.  The Vindicator
