- ➤ Beaver Township police arrested 53-year-old Justine Bissell on Monday after she stabbed a man with scissors in what she said was self-defense and then kicked and bit officers—she was bonded at $10,000 and now faces charges including felonious assault and domestic violence. WKBN

- ➤ Mahoning County and Trumbull County invite public transit riders to share ideas at meetings set for August. Trumbull County will meet on August 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Western Reserve Independence Living Center in Warren — and Mahoning County will meet on August 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Eastgate Regional Council of Governments in Youngstown — with online surveys offered for additional feedback. WKBN
- ➤ Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham said the 2023 re-evaluation raised property tax bills for 2024 and resulted in only 80 Board of Revision hearings in 2025 compared to 330 in 2023—fewer homeowners challenged the new values. He said cutting property taxes is unrealistic because raising other taxes is not allowed—better government efficiency is needed to lower the burden. WKBN
- ➤ Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Youngstown police wrapped up a traffic safety initiative that ran from June 19 to Aug. 1 — the effort cut crashes on Interstate 680 by 50 percent and resulted in 483 vehicles stopped, 246 citations given, four felony drug arrests, and 20 DUI charges while offering help for substance abuse. They said they will remain active in the area to keep roads safer. WKBN
- ➤ On Thursday night, the Hubbard Township Board of Trustees met to discuss acquiring 338 acres that include Coalburg Lake up to Stewart-Sharon Road—excluding the dam and its liabilities. Trustee Jason Tedrow said the Western Reserve Land Conservancy needed a willing recipient for a grant funding request and that if approved, the acquisition would cost taxpayers nothing. WFMJ
