🚨 Crime
Youngstown police asked for help to locate the family of a two- or three-year-old boy found alone on Friday in the 2000 block of South Avenue—officers did not know his name or address and urged anyone with information to call 911 immediately.
Warren police charged 23 year old Savion Woodall with murder, weapons under disability, improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence for the fatal shooting of David Owens III at the Convenient Food Mart parking lot on August 3—Woodall was arraigned on Friday and must return to court on August 21 as the store remains closed until a hearing on August 20.
Bradley Belknap from Atwater was sentenced in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to three years of community control—he must pay $3,404 in restitution, a $375 fine and have his driver’s license suspended for up to three years—after he crashed into a semi-truck during a police chase near Route 14 and S. Duck Creek Road in Goshen Township in February.
Struthers police said a 3-year-old was shot in a home on the 400 block of Spring Street Friday after the child got hold of an unsecured firearm—he died from his injuries around 3 p.m.
Two twin brothers, Ryan and Bryan Moore, both 49, were arrested about 3 a.m. downtown after police say they followed a woman and attacked her by holding her down against a curb and stomping on her head—cellphone video confirmed the assault and one brother had cocaine on him.
Jurors in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court heard closing arguments on Friday in the case against Akeem Hargrove—charged with aggravated murder for shooting 26 year old Devin Bell at a South Ave gas station on Dec.
22—and began deliberating around noon.
🎭 Culture
At the Youngstown Brier Hill Festival, volunteers made the classic pizza at St. Anthony Church on Friday to celebrate a local tradition that began in the 1940s using simple ingredients like sauce, peppers and parmesan cheese — the pizza is offered through the weekend.
🏛️ Government
Canfield council tabled a vote on the natural gas aggregation program during Wednesday's meeting because some members were absent, and they plan to reconvene next week to decide on Tom Bellish's variable rate plan that may lower costs.
The council also approved water service for a split property on West Akron-Canfield Road and an 8.5% water rate increase—moves that will impact local customers and allow the sale of an old tractor.
