CRIME NEWS

  • Isaac Bethel, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault and improper discharge of a firearm in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after he shot at a car on Hudson Avenue on Feb 26 that carried a 40-year-old man and his 18-year-old daughter, injuring the man with flying glass; he was arrested near Mistletoe and Glenwood avenues and remains in jail on a $100,000 bond with sentencing set for Sept. 10.  WKBN
  • The Seventh District Court of Appeals upheld Brandon Crump’s conviction in the 2020 home invasion that killed 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney — the court rejected appeals regarding the evidence and confirmed his 52-year-to-life sentence.  WKBN
  • Kaylon Adams, already serving a term for the November 2023 fatal shooting in Youngstown, was sentenced to life in prison with the chance of parole after 21 years for fatally shooting Roland Williams outside a bar in Akron in March 2024—security cameras and shell casings tied him to the crime.  WFMJ
  • 23-year-old Savion Woodall has been indicted for the murder of David Owens III in a shooting at the Convenient Food Mart parking lot on August 3 in Warren — he faces multiple charges while a second man was injured and the store was boarded up until a hearing is set.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Charles Kelley and The Clarks will open for John Mayer's YLIVE concert at Wean Park in Youngstown on Sept. 26 — tickets start at $65.  Tribune Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ODOT held two public meetings on Wednesday to gather input from public transportation riders. The first meeting was at Western Reserve Independence Living Center in Warren from 10 a.m. until Noon (the second was at Eastgate Regional Council of Governments in downtown Youngstown from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.).  WKBN
  • Niles will paint two of its four railroad bridges—one on North Main Street and one on Robins Avenue—using $400,000 from state, county and city funds to enhance the Niles Greenway bike trail expansion; Campbell painting company will begin the work the week of Labor Day.  WKBN
