COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kenneth David, 75, a native from Girard and a Medal of Honor recipient by former President Biden in January, was inducted into Fort Campbell’s Medal of Honor Rotunda on Tuesday—he drew enemy fire away from his company during the Vietnam War. In June, Girard honored him by naming Pittsburg Avenue as Kenneth J. David Medal of Honor Boulevard.  WKBN

CRIME NEWS

  • On Aug. 15, two motorcyclists said Joseph King followed them too closely on Mahoning Avenue and swerved into a gas station curb lane in an apparent effort to hit them—police later arrested him on felonious assault charges.  WKBN
  • Alvin Tucker Jr. (39) of Youngstown pleaded guilty after leading a high-speed chase in Liberty Township where he drove over 100 mph in a 65 mph zone and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison with a lifetime driver's license suspension.  WKBN
  • An Alliance woman pleaded guilty in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday—to two felony counts from a June 23 family dispute on East Indiana Avenue—and is free on bond while awaiting sentencing on Oct. 8.  WKBN
  • Youngstown Police responded at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to an isolated incident at 1044 Belmont Ave at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital where Mercy Health confirmed there is no danger to patients or the public as an investigation continues—officials did not confirm reports of a shooting.  The Vindicator

  • Canfield Fair Director of Entertainment George Roman spoke with reporters Jodie White and Jimmy Wendolek about new attractions and live acts set for the 179th Canfield Fair — the event will feature updated shows and family-friendly activities that bring the community together.  WFMJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mahoning County commissioners will consider awarding a $6.2 million contract for improvements along 4.2 miles of Mahoning Avenue and Rosemont Road in Jackson Township at their board meeting this morning—Shelly & Sands submitted the lowest bid for the project.  WFMJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Thursday, YSU opened its season with a 24-15 win over Mercyhurst at Stambaugh Stadium as the team forced four turnovers that kept the Lakers in check. Coach Doug Phillips said the team will review film for improvements and work to boost its offensive rhythm next week — aiming for a stronger performance in future games.  Tribune Chronicle
