- ➤ A pedestrian was seriously injured when a truck hit them on OH-5 near OH-534 in Braceville Township around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning — troopers reported that westbound lanes were closed. WKBN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ John Turner pleaded guilty to attempted trespass in a habitation—classified as a fifth-degree felony—after a woman found him sleeping in her bed, and his sentencing is set for September 16. WKBN
- ➤ Rashad W. Akbar, 36, of Vermont Avenue was sentenced to seven years in federal prison with six years of supervised release to follow after pleading guilty to drug and firearm charges—an FBI search on Sept. 4 found suspected fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, $3,000 in cash, and three firearms at his home. - ➤ Two Valley teens were arrested for receiving stolen property after a stolen Chrysler 300 they were in led a trooper on a 130 mph chase along I-680 early Tuesday that ended in a collision along the Shirley Road exit—authorities are now investigating if the car was stolen using a programmable ignition key. - ➤ Youngstown police responded to a gunfire call at 7:52 p.m. Monday evening on Roxbury and Homestead avenues on the South Side—recovering 40 shell casings, two damaged cars, and a bullet that hit a house as witnesses reported a black car drove west. WKBN

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Council reviewed a five-page Economic Development Strategic Plan prepared over 14 months by the Montrose Group that outlines five priorities — expanding the small Economic Development Department, boosting business retention, promoting development along Belmont, Mahoning and Market streets, growing manufacturing on 500 acres, and hiring a marketing firm. Councilman Julius Oliver praised the plan's strong foundation while Chief of Staff Nikki Fields said legislation to expand the department will come soon. WKBN
- ➤ Youngstown’s transit authority used a $1.98 million federal grant to install accident avoidance technology on two 35 foot buses. Bus 2093 was shown Tuesday and will finish testing to hit the road in about a month while Bus 2094 will be ready in around three months. The Vindicator
- ➤ At today's village council meeting, council members including Mayor Ray Lewis approved the use of Woodland Park ballfields for an adult softball tournament on Sept.21 and Sept.28.
