- ➤ On September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks killed nearly 3,000 people, including five from the Youngstown area. Their names—Terence Michael Lynch, Ruth Ellen Ketler, Rebecca Lee Koborie, Ludwig John Picarro, and Catherine Patricia Salter—are listed on the 9/11 Memorial website. WKBN
- ➤ On Thursday, many people gathered at the Mahoning Valley Memorial Park in Austintown to remember the 9/11 victims; students sang and veterans shook hands during the ceremony. The committee—led by local organizers—said they displayed artifacts from the towers and Pentagon to help younger generations learn about that day. WFMJ
- ➤ John Lewis, chief of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station fire department, led a 9/11 memorial ceremony at the Vienna Fire Department where nearly 100 community members gathered to honor 2,977 lives lost along with 343 firefighters — and 72 police officers who sacrificed theirs; he recalled his personal experience from that tragic day and stressed the continuing impact of their loss. Silly Science Sunday will be held this Sunday, Sept. 14 at Wean Park in Downtown Youngstown from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature over 40 exhibitors including robotics teams, the Armstrong Air and Space Museum from Wapakoneta, and the cult-classic Oobleck Run—adding science demos, a special Trek Coffee blend demonstration, and local food vendors to the free event that has run for 15 years. - ➤ On Thursday, the Poland Library Citizens Group appeared at the board of trustees meeting to ask that the library remain at its S Main Street location amid severe structural problems. They presented 2,000 signatures while Library CEO Aimee Fifarek said alternative sites are under study—no final decision has been made. WKBN

- ➤ Trumbull Art Gallery in Warren will host the 59th TAG/RAA Annual starting Saturday with a juried exhibition featuring works by 70+ artists+ and many new talents making their debut. Packard Concert Band returns to indoor performance and will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II at a concert starting at 3 p.m. Sunday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave NW in Warren. - ➤ Trumbull Career and Technical Center instructor Kris Doran was named Ohio Career Tech Education Teacher of the Year by the Ohio Association for Career and Technical Education and will be honored on November 18 in Columbus—he teaches work-based learning that gives students real multimedia industry experience. - ➤ Warren city, Howland, and Warren townships made one-year appointments to a five-member board overseeing the Kimberly-Clark project. - ➤ Mineral Ridge residents faced flooded basements and high repair costs after heavy rains overwhelmed the old sewer system; county commissioners on Wednesday proposed exploring grants+ a countywide program to disconnect footer drains and redirect rainwater to storm drains, a plan that could cost millions. David Thomas introduced the Senior Protection from Foreclosure Act in the Ohio House to help homeowners aged 65 and older with properties valued under $750,000 stay in their homes if they make a payment on delinquent property taxes—State Rep.
