- ➤ Renovation work is underway in Youngstown on a 50-year-old building on East Federal Street that MVHS bought to store its collections—Boak & Sons donated the new roof and windows will be replaced soon. MVHS has begun a capital campaign to raise $10 million and will decide on a name when a major donation is received. WKBN
- ➤ Ty’s Pumpkin Walk returns at a new venue at Angiuli’s Farm Market greenhouses on State Route 46 in Canfield—an event with hundreds of carved pumpkins benefiting local nonprofit groups. It will run from October 3—25 on Thursdays through Sundays from 6—9 p.m. WKBN
- ➤ Sister René Parman, who is legally blind, will turn 105 tomorrow at Knoll Run Golf Course while she continues her long tradition of playing golf every Friday with her fellow sisters from Humility of Mary—she has played the sport for decades despite injuries. Her friends help guide her on the course so she can play the game she loves. WKBN
- ➤ In Hartford Township, the 61st annual Hartford Apple Festival continues through Sunday with a parade, 5K run, and one-mile walk. Some roads will be closed today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.—residents should plan their travel accordingly. WFMJ
- ➤ Boardman Rotary will hold its 49th annual Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Boardman Park on Boardman Poland Road—featuring nearly 200 vendors, food courts, and a $5 admission that benefits local groups. WKBN

- ➤ The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber is asking Mahoning Valley business owners to take a Federal Reserve survey on how they use debt and handle financial challenges; the 12-minute survey must be completed by November 14 — the results will show trends in small for-profit firms. WFMJ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Valley businesses and organizations are being sought as sponsors for the inaugural 7 17 Credit Union Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival scheduled for Oct. 4 at the Warren Community Amphitheatre—partners will purchase at least 25 tickets for $250 to receive logo displays, social media recognition and a public thank you from the stage. - ➤ Struthers City Schools celebrates the 60th anniversary of its student-run radio station — WKTL, which started in 1965 — and Superintendent Pete Pirone says it has made a lasting impact on students. WFMJ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting next Friday, State Route 46 under State Route 82 will be closed in both directions—detours are in place—until mid-October. The diverging diamond project is set to finish ahead of schedule next month. WKBN
- ➤ Beginning September 26, 2025, both directions of State Route 46 will close under State Route 82 in Howland Township for diverging diamond interchange construction—drivers are advised to use detour routes until mid-October and attend a free public program at the Warren Library on September 24 at 6 p.m. WFMJ
- ➤ On Thursday, the Ohio Controlling Board approved over $4.2M for renovations at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown—Murphy Contracting Company will replace six elevators, upgrade electrical systems, and install new controls following a design phase approved in December 2024. WFMJ
- ➤ Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel said he will not run for governor as he wants to focus on his term and on education and workforce issues — he was nominated by Governor Mike DeWine in February and is known for his work with Ohio schools. WKBN
- ➤ On Friday, September 19, the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Sebring location closed due to staffing issues from illness—people with urgent court business should visit the Canfield office, and those needing title services must go to Oakhill Title in Youngstown while attorneys continue to e-file cases online.
