- ➤ Canfield held its 57th Annual Fall Market on the Green on Saturday with more than 100 vendors offering arts, crafts, antiques, produce and seasonal decor—live music and food added to the festive atmosphere. Fall Market Chairperson Kris Oddis said locals and visitors alike enjoyed the event as a cheerful start to fall. WKBN
- ➤ Two Saturday events held in Warren raised awareness for food insecurity—St. Vincent DePaul hosted its fourth annual Steps of Hope walk at Perkins Park while St. Theresa of Calcutta parish organized its third annual Rock ‘n’ Rally food truck event to benefit local families. The efforts come as the organization’s dining hall now feeds 500 people daily amid high child poverty rates in the Mahoning Valley. WFMJ
- ➤ On Saturday, September 20, Penguin City Brewing hosted Youngstown's 4th annual Oktoberfest with live polka music, vendors, and themed beers—bringing a taste of German tradition to East Federal Street. The celebration runs through October 5 and welcomes families and dog owners. WKBN
- ➤ MVHS began work on its new museum project at the former IBM building (250 E. Federal Street) as Boak & Sons donated labor and materials to install a new roof. MVHS said the donation strengthens its campaign to bring the Idora Park Experience Museum to life. WFMJ
- ➤ Over 100 dogs were available for adoption at the 'My Gotcha Day' event in Warren on Saturday afternoon, and Healthy Hearts and Paws Project received 19 new dogs in 36 hours that left kennels full—volunteers are needed to assist the shelter. WFMJ
- ➤ Esther House held its 4th annual golf outing at Turkana Golf Course Saturday morning in East Liverpool to raise funds for a 6-unit maternity home for vulnerable women. The event grew from 11 teams to 36 teams over four years—Gina Tatgenhorst thanked volunteers for their support. WFMJ
- ➤ A century-old building on South Bridge Street in Struthers that once housed Los Gallos Mexican Restaurant and The Cellar was demolished Saturday morning after an engineer’s report found serious safety issues — including a twisting foundation, electrical problems and a fire risk — and Struthers Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller said the city will turn the site into a parking lot while preserving parts of the facade. This work is aimed at alleviating the safety hazards identified in the old structure. WFMJ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Insight announced it will reopen Insight Hospital & Medical Center in phases, starting with a 24—7 emergency department for both inpatient and outpatient services and planning to expand based on community needs. The Department of Health will inspect the hospital Tuesday, September 23 as union members are surveyed about returning to work while local officials remain hopeful of improved care. WFMJ
- ➤ Monday is the first day of fall and many locals will see a boost in brain dopamine—Cleveland Clinic psychologist Dr. Susan Albers said cooler air, outdoor exercise, and seasonal treats like pumpkin spice lattes help people feel cozy and improve sleep. WKBN
- ➤ About 800 people joined a recovery walk at Eastwood Field in Niles on Saturday to support those on their path to sobriety. The event had a resource fair, basket raffle, games, an addiction memorial, a scavenger hunt, inflatables, a meet and greet with Scrappy, and free Narcan kits—helping community members in all stages of recovery.
