- ➤ Mineral Ridge veteran David Sheely Sr. served as a deputy sheriff and with the Ohio National Guard’s 838th Military Police Company where his two sons also joined, and he later became commander of the local VFW District 8 to support veterans—helping them get needed benefits and a smooth return to civilian life. - ➤ St. Vincent de Paul Northeast Ohio District Council hosted the newly named Steps of Hope Walk Saturday at Packard Park in Warren, and more than 350 community members including Mayor Doug Franklin joined to support programs that help families facing poverty. The event featured music from Lakewood's N.O.K.A. — free T-shirts, face painting and local volunteers raised awareness of the need for community assistance. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ A local church — partnered with Ohio Thanks You — held its groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday in Warren to begin building affordable senior housing for adults 62 and older. - ➤ Louisa Maria Edwards was a local historian and educator whose lectures kept our community's heritage alive (she was the granddaughter of John Stark Edwards and linked to early local pioneers). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ About 50 volunteers met at Stambaugh Park in Girard on Saturday morning for World Cleanup Day as Youngstown CityScape and 422 United joined forces to clear trash along several local roads and ended the event with a meal at a local restaurant — the effort showed how neighboring communities work together. - ➤ Eric Parisi, a Canfield Marine veteran, recalled that during his Afghanistan deployment his intelligence unit was under attacks daily while he gathered critical data.
