- ➤ Local small business owners are running a book crawl on Oct. 4 that gives book lovers a chance to visit different stores and collect stamps for prizes. Participating shops will offer special events like a sale and an unsale + donate part of their sales to support local literacy. WKBN
- ➤ Nearly 800 people lost power in Trumbull County on Tuesday morning — almost 700 outages were in Warren and over 90 in Warren Township — as crews investigated the cause. WKBN
- ➤ Youngstown State University's Guin Fit program is teaming up with national cycling leaders—the League of American Bicyclists—to review bike audits and plan for expanded biking and walking paths in Youngstown. Local community members and leaders will use the audit results to decide if additional safe lanes are needed. WFMJ
- ➤ Youngstown native Ken Cooper will match every donation dollar-for-dollar toward a new building for the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter until Thanksgiving. The shelter needs to raise $50,000 for upgrades — including more kennels, play areas and a sally port — to improve care for its animals. WFMJ

- ➤ Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries has partnered with ReSupply to launch a new paid donation pickup service that helps residents schedule online pickups for bulky items in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and in Mercer and Lawrence counties. Fees vary based on item type and distance, and the service aims to meet a growing need in the community. WKBN

- ➤ Crews began setup Tuesday in the rain at Wean Park for the first two-day YLive concerts. John Mayer will headline Friday with Charles Kelley and The Clarks opening while Tim McGraw will headline Saturday with The Band Perry and Chase McDaniels — tickets include reserved seats, lawn seats, and two-day passes. - ➤ Officials in Howland met Monday at the township administration building to discuss a proposal by the Committee to Abolish Ohio Property Taxes that would remove the tax funding key services like police, road work, and fire protection. Township leaders, including trustee James LaPolla and fiscal officer Thomas Krispinsky, warned that stopping property taxes without a solid funding plan could alter life for the worse—urging reform instead of repeal. - ➤ Veterans in the Mahoning Valley can receive free seasonal flu shots at local VA community-based outpatient clinics starting Saturday, September 27 at 8 a.m.—clinics in Youngstown, East Liverpool, and Warren offer the first appointments with additional shots available at in-network retail pharmacies. - ➤ Colleen Case lost her long job when Allstate restructured in December 2020 and her husband's company closed in July 2023, adding to the challenges she faced. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 Triple Positive breast cancer in June 2024 and now faces high medical bills while caring for her two children and will see help from the 15th annual raffle-auction held on September 27 at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. - ➤ Ohio Department of Health officials visited Insight Hospital and Medical Center on Tuesday as the facility prepared to reopen after a six‐month closure. The hospital will restore operations in phases starting with a 24-7 emergency department and inpatient and outpatient services and will contact employees about returning — union representatives say uncertainty remains among furloughed staff. - ➤ A magistrate in the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court denied a temporary restraining order to let Ursuline transfers play football this season and under OHSAA rules the players must sit out five games before they can play in 2026—attorneys said they plan to object to the ruling. WFMJ
- ➤ After a 31 to 28 win over Towson State last Saturday, YSU head coach Doug Phillips said the team is using its off week to prepare for conference play as they will host South Dakota State on October 4 at 6 p.m.—he credited upperclass leadership and new coaching strategies with improving offense and defense. - ➤ Lawyers for former Ursuline High football players will appeal a magistrate’s ruling that denied a temporary restraining order—needed to allow the players to transfer after their season was canceled due to hazing lawsuits. The ruling stated that the players must request an exemption from OHSAA to regain eligibility. WKBN
