COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Jodi Glass will become the new executive director of the Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley effective Nov. 1 and she will lead programs, fundraising and partnerships across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties—she has served at ASMV for seven years and currently manages marketing and recruiting at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center Adult Career Center.  WKBN
  • Youngstown CityScape is working with Enbridge Gas Ohio, the Regional Chamber and the City to redesign a downtown garden bunker at the corner of East Federal and Champion streets. On Oct-10, CityScape staff will join volunteers to plant new trees, shrubs and flowers to refresh the area.  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cerise Stone Mill Baking Company has brought French pastries to Cornersburg - the bakery is open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or until sold out, Thursday through Saturday at 3500 Canfield Road. The family-owned business honors a legacy that began with brothers Marc and Alain from Provence.  WFMJ
  • A small data center with an advanced design will soon use part of the Lordstown site as part of the Stargate Project. The design will cut the demand on local power and water systems—using a cooling system that recycles water—to serve as a model for future centers.  WFMJ

CRIME NEWS

  • A student at Harding High School was arrested Tuesday around 9 a.m. after an altercation with principal Vicki Raptis at 860 Elm Road NE when the principal took a student's phone and the student grabbed her shirt, swung her around and later grabbed her waist — police are reviewing camera footage and witness accounts — as the student now faces charges of assault, menacing and resisting arrest.  Tribune Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shemekia Copeland, praised as the greatest blues singer of her generation, will headline the 7 17 Credit Union Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival on Oct. 4 at Warren Community Amphitheatre in Warren— the event opens its gates at 11 a.m., runs from noon to 10 p.m., and tickets are $10.  The Vindicator
  • A ceremony for Hispanic Heritage Month was held yesterday in Youngstown—featuring flags representing Hispanic nations and a proclamation from the mayor, with events continuing until October 15 to honor Hispanic achievements and history.  WKBN
  • On Friday and Saturday, thousands gather at Wean Park for YLive 2025 featuring John Mayer at 7:30 p.m. and Tim McGraw at 7 p.m. Organizers urge guests to arrive early for nearby parking and safety measures — a mobile command post will be ready by Mahoning County Emergency Management.  WKBN
  • Today, Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church launches its annual Greek Food Festival on 12th Street in Campbell featuring authentic Greek food — like Village gyro, Koulourakia, Baklava, and Loukoumades — along with wine tasting, music, dancing, and games for kids. The free event runs until Sunday with hours from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and until 9 p.m. on Sunday, and proceeds will benefit the church ahead of its 70th anniversary celebration.  WKBN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ohio's archery deer hunting season starts Saturday, September 27 and continues until Sunday, February 1, 2026. Hunters may use crossbows, compound bows, recurve bows and longbows to pursue deer — they must have a valid hunting license and deer permit.  WFMJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Tito Brown and Derrick McDowell debated at the 7th Ward Citizens Coalition meeting as they discussed issues for the mayor race. Brown defended his work in lowering crime and increasing homeownership while McDowell asked for more clear rules at City Hall—showing different plans for Youngstown.  WKBN
  • East Commerce Street in downtown Youngstown will be closed from Monday, September 29 until Friday, November 28 for a YMCA electric service upgrade—no street parking will be allowed while access to the YMCA parking lot remains open.  WFMJ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mahoning County Public Health announced it will host over a dozen walk-in flu shot clinics between October and early November across county locations—residents aged 6 months and older are encouraged to get vaccinated.  WFMJ
  • Meridian HealthCare will hold a groundbreaking ceremony next week at its Meridian Road campus in Youngstown when it begins a $2M expansion that will add 3,000 square feet and renovate the 26,094-square-foot facility; the ceremony is set for Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. The project, funded partly by a $1M state grant, will add a new on-site pharmacy and more clinical space, create 10 jobs, and is expected to be completed by early 2026—ensuring over 20 years of integrated care.  WFMJ
