- ➤ The Greater Youngstown Community Dialogue on Racism hosted a block party Saturday at Wick Park that helped families get essential items like baby carriers and strollers—health and community organizations offered food and raffle prizes and shared details on year-round support for young parents. - ➤ Nonprofit Tunnels to Towers will pay off the mortgage for the family of fallen Officer Philip Wagner who was killed in July when a suspect opened fire on him while he was eating lunch in his police car—local officials and police groups honored his memory at a rally on the Canfield Village Green. - ➤ Yesterday, the Braceville African American Heritage Museum opened its doors to the public — supported by the Braceville Community Foundation — to showcase the achievements of local African American residents; the museum will host family friendly and fundraising events in the coming weeks. WFMJ
- ➤ In Leetonia, the local sportsman club will host its 49th annual Kids Day on Saturday, which is National Hunting and Fishing Day, to offer shooting, fishing and archery contests for children ages 5 to 16. Registration begins at 9 a.m. + each child must be accompanied by an adult as organizers aim to promote safety and sportsmanship. WKBN
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Aqua Ohio and local representatives agreed on a new water rate plan that will raise residential rates by 20.5% over the next four years with annual increases between 5.00 and 5.25% effective January 1—Aqua will invest over $33 million in capital improvements and pay over $11 million in property taxes. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last Thursday the Western Reserve Joint Fire District board moved ahead with plans to add living quarters to Station 92 in Poland at an estimated cost of $5.4 million—details include eight bedrooms, three bathrooms and a kitchen and dining area that aim to boost crew retention. The board will now seek bids to finalize the project cost. The Vindicator
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A local nonprofit held its 15th annual War on Breast Cancer fundraiser at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds where proceeds went to Stage 3 breast cancer survivor Colleen Case from Niles. The event featured over 400 raffle baskets, a silent auction, food trucks and activities for kids and has raised more than $200,000 over previous years. WFMJ
