- ➤ Market Street Green Space opened Friday at the corner of Market Street and West Princeton Avenue. The park has a gazebo, rain gardens and a labyrinth by the Urban Labyrinth Project—funded by city dollars and American Rescue Plan funds. WFMJ
- ➤ United Returning Citizens, a group founded in 2015 to help people reintegrate after prison, held a gala Friday night at Stambaugh Auditorium to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The organization supports workforce development by offering job training, education+expungement assistance, and other services to reduce recidivism. WKBN
- ➤ On Friday, Second Harvest Food Bank named its Mike Iberis Distribution Center to honor its leader of 25 years who helped feed 20,000 people weekly through 160 partner agencies and programs. Last year, the food bank distributed 10 million pounds of food — including over 2.5 million pounds of fresh produce — showing his deep commitment to service. WKBN
- ➤ Enbridge Gas Ohio partnered with Youngstown CityScape to boost downtown beautification by presenting Mayor Tito Brown with a $25,000 check—more than two dozen Enbridge employees helped clear landscaping beds and plant new flowers along Champion Street—and officials said they plan to continue their collaboration on future projects. - ➤ Drivers on SR 46 now can travel under SR 82 after ODOT completed a $20 million diverging diamond interchange project—its design eases trips to Eastwood Mall and improves safety by removing risky left-hand turns. WKBN

- ➤ Amanda: She Didn’t Mean To Die is a one-night-only play based on Amanda McAuley’s life and fatal fentanyl overdose that will premiere today at Edward W. Powers Auditorium — located at 260 W. Federal Street in Youngstown where doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. It is a project by her mother Donna McAuley and co-writer Ron King meant to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dry weather late this summer cut the size of pumpkins grown on local farms—Sam Detwiler said pumpkins now weigh about 25 pounds instead of the usual 30 or 35. Other growers reported yield drops while an Ohio State University extension expert warned that lower production may push pumpkin prices higher this fall. WFMJ

- ➤ SOBE Concerned Citizens have asked the Ohio EPA to cancel SOBE Thermal Energy Solutions’ 10-year pyrolysis permit in downtown Youngstown because the group worries about harmful methane release and undisclosed permit transfers—over 220 residents signed the petition and they also demand an EPA inspection with any results shared with local residents. - ➤ Patricia McSuley of Compassionate Wigs has helped over a thousand women cope with cancer-related hair loss for more than 13 years—she offers private, personalized wig fittings at Salon 224 in Boardman. Patricia, a cancer survivor herself, uses her skills as a licensed cosmetologist—she provides natural-looking wigs and hairpieces to boost confidence for those facing chemotherapy or alopecia. WFMJ

- ➤ Jacksonville and Cleveland swapped starting NFL cornerbacks Wednesday night, sending Tyson Campbell to the Browns and Greg Newsome to the Jaguars—teams also exchanged late-round 2026 draft picks as part of the deal. The Vindicator
- ➤ Lakeview overcame an early deficit of 21 to 0 in the second quarter to rally for a 46 to 41 win over Cochranton on Thursday night. The Sailors improved to a record of 1 win and 7 losses and will travel to Cambridge Springs next Friday, Oct. 17. WKBN
- ➤ Poland and Girard, the last undefeated teams in the Northeast 8 Conference, met Friday at Arrowhead Stadium in Girard and Poland took a lead when Vito Komara rushed for a go-ahead touchdown—putting the score at 28–21 with 3:10 left.
