COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Members of Dylan's House broke ground on a duplex that will feature four bedrooms on each side to provide round-the-clock care for up to eight adults with autism. The project will take six to eight months to complete—community partners include land donors, local builders, and a home association that named it Project of the Year.  WFMJ
  • The Warren Family Mission is hosting its annual coat giveaway today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Tod Avenue building to hand out free coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets to local residents in need.  WKBN
  • Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown is running the Extra Mile Food Drive to help Second Harvest Food Bank collect donations for local families. The drive started on October 13 and will run until November 20 — donations can be dropped off at 4695 Mahoning Ave starting at 7 a.m.  WKBN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sweet Melissa’s Good Eats opened its third location in Howland on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.—the new cafe on Market Street offers salads, wraps, and a dining area for community meetings while owner Melissa Poland said she chose the site for its regular local customers as she works to franchise the business.  WKBN
  • Republic Pizzeria is set to open a new outlet in The Bunker at Southern Park Mall tentatively on November 17—its Canfield location reopened today with updated hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  WFMJ

CRIME NEWS

  • Data from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation showed that 199 drug samples tested positive for carfentanil in 46 counties through the first three quarters of 2025—Mahoning County recorded 4 cases and Trumbull 2 while Attorney General Dave Yost warned that illegally bought drugs can be dangerously potent.  WFMJ
  • Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, a Youngstown native, were arrested Thursday on charges of money laundering and wire fraud conspiracy in schemes that rigged high-stakes card games and NBA bets — authorities said.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier (a Youngstown native) were arrested Thursday in two separate schemes that allegedly rigged sports bets and Mafia-backed poker games to cheat millions; they face money laundering and wire fraud conspiracy charges with initial court appearances expected later.  The Vindicator

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Chaney and East High School painted a unity boulder at East High on Thursday to celebrate the merger of the two schools. The boulder was donated and moved by local volunteers — a project that establishes a new tradition ahead of Youngstown Unified High School opening in the fall.  WFMJ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Division of Cannabis Control announced a recall of Klutch Processing cannabis gummies because they lack the required THC symbol on each serving. Affected products have been sold at dispensaries (Leaf Relief in Boardman, gLeaf in Warren, and Curaleaf in Girard) with purchase dates from January 14 to October 22 and have not been linked to any reported health issues.  WFMJ
