COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Youngstown Parks and Recreation Department held its free Trails of Treats event on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Wick Park (260 Park Avenue) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., where locals in costume enjoyed face painting, candy and hay rides.  WFMJ
  • Southwoods Health and Kufleitner Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram held their annual Trunk or Treat event Saturday night in Boardman—over 1,500 children in costumes collected candy, cookies, donuts and cider at the free event. Local trick-or-treaters enjoyed a lively Halloween tradition hosted by community partners.  WKBN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sean Lott Industries, a new tech company focused on clean energy and safe EV batteries, held an introductory dinner Saturday night in Downtown Youngstown—its aim is to develop a fire suppression system for electric vehicles—and it plans to address rising battery fire concerns.   WKBN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Youngstown State University's Art Day at Bliss Hall welcomed local high school students on Saturday to learn about art study paths and career opportunities in the arts. The department announced plans to add professional development and a business minor to its courses — it will also offer an AI graphic design course and launch a summer camp next year.  WFMJ
  • Youngstown City School District took immediate action at a middle school after a report of laced candy—officials are now investigating while details remain unclear.  WFMJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chaney won 10-6 against East in the final City Series game at Rayen Stadium when Dewayne Thompson caught a pass with just over two minutes left to secure the win—his play and a fumble recovery touchdown gave Chaney a historic send-off and ended East's season.  The Vindicator
  • Twenty-one local high school football teams have qualified for the 2025 OHSAA playoffs based on computer points from JoeEitel.com and Ohio Fantastic 50—official playoff pairings will be released by the OHSAA today.  WKBN
  • YSU quarterback Beau Brungard led the Penguins to a 51-17 win over Murray State at Stambaugh Stadium on Homecoming Saturday—he completed 22 of 25 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two scores. Brungard, who overcame early doubts, said his performance has set the team up for next week’s road game at North Dakota State.  The Vindicator
  • Local angler Tyler Woak from Niles joined the King of The River bass tournament along the Ohio River and fished with skill and energy from 5 a.m.—his strong start using topwater rods boosted the day’s catch.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Chaney beat East 10-6 on Saturday afternoon at Ryan Stadium—players from both teams joined the Youngstown Defenders on the field. Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor stressed unity as fans were given team t-shirts during the televised WKBN High School Football Game of the Week.  WKBN
  • Cardinal Mooney beat Andrews Osborne Academy 4—0 Saturday afternoon at Girard’s Arrowhead Stadium to win its second straight girls soccer district title as Mia Williams scored twice and Leah Hudak and Francesca Cassese each scored one. The team will face the winner of the Kirtland/Warren JFK game in the Division V Regional Semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Boardman High School.  WKBN
  • McDonald beat Mineral Ridge 20—14 on Friday at Joe Lane Sports Complex, finishing a 10-0 season and earning a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier title—marking its first unbeaten regular season since 2018.  Tribune Chronicle
