CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Brookfield branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, Brookfield Historical Society members recounted the region's mining history and noted that Trumbull County led the state in 1875 coal production with 1,065,000 tons mined from five townships. The talk explained three types of mines and reviewed mining hazards and the immigrant work experience, including a 1877 accident where seven men were suffocated.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Kinsman Presbyterian Church was built in 1833 with help from local donors like Rebecca Kinsman and was designed by Willis Smith; the church stands next to an old cemetery that holds graves of early residents and Revolutionary War veterans.
