- ➤ Thrive 10:10 in Girard earned national certification as a Bridges Out of Poverty consultant and will offer in person or virtual training workshops for local groups + expand Ruth’s Boutique services + provide financial classes to help families gain stability. WFMJ
- ➤ The Girard Liberty Rotary Club donated $3,000 to Liberty Local Schools' food pantry, which gives a bag with a meal, snacks, and a hygiene product to each of the 160 registered families every other week—superintendent Brian Knight said the gift will help keep the shelves stocked. WKBN
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A new business is set to replace the empty Sparkle Market building in Niles—Dollar Tree signs and hiring notices are already on display at the storefront. The building was sold in July for $415,000 to Niles OH LLC and had been vacant since Sparkle closed in January. WKBN
- ➤ Customers at Eastwood Mall in Niles can test drive Tesla vehicles from designated parking spaces near the food court entrance — Tesla employees will be on site to answer questions and help with orders. Test drives run Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for drivers aged 21 or older with valid licenses and car insurance. WFMJ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra announced its new season with new Music Director Erik Ochsner — the four-concert series opens December 22 with Home for the Holidays featuring Amanda Beagle and adds three shows on Jan. 25, March 13, and May 15 at Stambaugh Auditorium; past season ticket holders receive early access starting Wednesday with public sales beginning Friday. - ➤ Trumbull County Tourism announced an updated Italian Food Trail that maps more than 50 local Italian eateries and celebrates family traditions in Italian cooking. A new passport program lets diners collect stickers from eight featured stops—once all stickers are collected, participants enter a monthly drawing for a $50 prize box. WFMJ
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Vallourec Star, LP received tax credit approval from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority for its planned local expansion, which will add 40 full-time jobs in Youngstown. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and Development Director Lydia Mihalik announced a seven-year tax credit of 1.126 percent — the move is expected to generate over $2.3 million in new annual payroll. WKBN

- ➤ On Monday, Youngstown State University's Student Investment Fund won first place at the national Portfolio Building Competition in Chicago by designing a mock $100,000 portfolio. The students spent three weeks preparing for the contest and built on lessons from managing a $3.8 million portfolio — a milestone that shows their strong finance program. WFMJ

- ➤ Boardman Township is beginning a month-long leaf pick-up program Monday — running until Nov. 21 and skipping Veterans Day. It is partnering with Elliott’s Recycling Center to facilitate yard-waste drop-offs during set hours on weekdays and weekends. WKBN
- ➤ Youngstown opened the renovated Mahoning Valley Sanitary District Park on its West Side following a ribbon cutting Monday—one of 17 parks improved with $10.5 million from American Rescue Plan funds. The park at the corner of Connecticut and North Dunlap Avenues is part of a plan to finish renovations by year’s end, with work at other parks continuing into next year. WKBN

- ➤ Ten weeks of high school football ended with standout players from Girard, Crestview, South Range, and Poland impressing local fans, including seniors AJ Pearson and Brady Evans who set new records. The Big 22 winners will be announced on WKBN.com on Dec. 11 with a special selection show at 7:30 p.m. on WKBN-TV—local head coaches and media members cast their votes to determine the top performers.
