COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After a four-year closure, bikers and walkers can now use the continuous Western Reserve Greenway Bike Trail in Bristol Township—repair work costing about $330,000 fixed a landslide-damaged section that once forced an on-road detour. The ribbon cutting marked the trail's reopening, reconnecting the Trumbull and Ashtabula County sections.  WKBN
  • A new sanctuary for first responders in Boardman has opened to offer rest and continuing education for active and retired personnel from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in partnership with local mental health professionals. The center was established with a property donation from the Clarence R. Smith Family and will serve 152 local fire, police, EMS and dispatch agencies — supporting their overall wellness.  WKBN
  • More than 300 Youngstown volunteers will gather today at the United Way Volunteer Center in Boardman to pack 125,000 meals for hunger relief—organizers are United Way, Mahoning Valley Direction Home, and Meals of Hope with sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  WFMJ
  • A local restaurant in Niles offered free meals Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to EBT users and seniors with valid ID—serving over 500 meals in four hours as a thank you to the community.  WKBN
  • Catholic Charities will launch its 60-day Year-End Giving Campaign on Nov. 1 to help families with food, housing, and other services as many face tough times. The organization will host a Community Day of Hope (with room for about 250 people) on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Blessed Sacrament in Warren (advance sign-ups are encouraged).  WKBN

  • Taylor Coil in Lordstown is hiring an entry-level packaging operator—paying $20 an hour—that offers career growth opportunities within the company's production lines.  WKBN
  • Brilex Industries is hosting open houses for job seekers today from 4 to 8 p.m. at its plant at 1201 Crescent Street in Youngstown and tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at its plant at 11950 South Ave in North Lima — visitors can tour the facilities and review openings for fitters, welders, machinists, assemblers, general laborers, a tool room attendant, a quality technician and a shipping coordinator — the company stated.  WKBN
  • American Water and Essential Utilities approved a merger—combining their operations into a regulated public water utility with a combined enterprise value of $63 billion, set to close by the end of the first quarter in 2027. Aqua Ohio, which serves over 500,000 people including local customers, may face changes as the companies join forces.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Medici Museum of Art now displays Cosmic Galaxy—an installation by New York artist Abby Modell that was installed Tuesday morning in the glass-walled gallery on East Market Street and features 34 hand-blown glass modules with between 14 and 20 silver spheres arranged in a celestial trail; the work is on indefinite loan and is for sale with a formal dedication planned later this year.  Tribune Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michael Rock was chosen as the new treasurer of the Youngstown City School District by a unanimous board vote Tuesday night. The Struthers native—recognized in 2024 with a Treasurer of Distinction Award—will begin his three-year contract in January to manage the district's finances and support local student opportunities.  WFMJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Warren and Champion Township made a deal to split half the income tax from Mercy Health’s new hospital built next to the Kent State Trumbull campus. The joint economic district plan will fund needed road improvements—pending approval by both Warren City Council and Champion Trustees.  WKBN
  • Mahoning County first responders now have a central wellness center after the facility was dedicated on Tuesday in Boardman — built with funds from county, township and local donations — where they can recover from job stress. The main house is phase one and a nearby building will be renovated for physical fitness and rehabilitation.  The Vindicator
