COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Raymond John Wean Foundation approved over $41,000 in grants for resident-led projects in Warren and Youngstown, raising 2025’s total to nearly $115,000—supporting local nonprofits and grassroots groups improving neighborhood safety and quality of life.  The Vindicator

BUSINESS NEWS

  • General Motors will cut thousands of jobs, including 550 at its Ultium Cells battery plant in Lordstown, to lower losses in its electric vehicle business. The move follows a letter from GM CEO Mary Barra on Oct. 21 that said the company is reassessing its EV capacity after federal incentives ended.  WKBN
  • On Tuesday a representative from Bristolville 25 Developer LLC sent a letter to the Lordstown Village Council proposing a 1.65 million square foot data center on 133 acres in Trumbull and Mahoning counties that is estimated to boost employment and tax revenue + the proposal includes a $3.6 billion capital investment, an application for a site plan review submitted on Oct. 20, and funding for water infrastructure improvements, though the project has not yet been approved.  WKBN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Santa’s Christmasland at Kraynak’s, open every day until Dec. 31 (excluding Christmas Day), now features singing snowmen with 322 LED lights that can be programmed and were designed by Dante Ludovici’s team (L Designs Plus). Dante Ludovici is also preparing a special show for Light Up Night on November 21st.  WKBN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Chevy Motswaledi from Mahoning County OSU extension said fall is a great time to plant bulbs, garlic and divide perennials so gardens can have a stronger spring harvest. Homeowners are advised to water plants well, apply two to four inches of mulch, remove spotted lanternfly egg masses and test soil + follow recommended care to protect plants from winter damage.  WKBN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials at the Cardinal Joint Fire District swore in Zeb Garlough as a part-time firefighter/EMT at Monday’s meeting; he said he will work for both Green Township and Canfield—aiming to earn his medic license and later go full time. The board also discussed a FEMA grant on hold from the federal shutdown and warned that changes to property taxes in 2026 may cut funds for fire and police services—leaving them with little support.  The Vindicator
  • The City of Youngstown and Liberty Township are hosting an open house today at 6 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown to gather input on the Belmont Avenue Corridor Study as part of the Build Better Belmont Initiative—this study will help guide future improvements for residents, shoppers, diners, and travelers.  WFMJ

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Tuesday afternoon, the Clarence R. Smith Jr. Family Mahoning Valley First Responder Wellness Center opened in Boardman—serving first responders from Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties with physical and mental health services and training sessions. The center was partly funded with opioid settlement funds and Boardman Township contributions and plans to expand by adding a physical therapy facility.  WFMJ
