- ➤ The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. installed 396 doorbell cameras this year across the 2nd Ward and new construction zones as part of its Community Safety program based on resident input to reduce crime and improve trust with police + the program will also upgrade LED lighting at commercial corridors and hold meetings with residents and law enforcement. - ➤ 12-year-old Jamir Wells became part of the Watchhorn family during a public adoption ceremony on Monday—he had lived with Jason and Brenda Watchhorn for several years and will now share his new last name with his foster siblings. Judge Rusu led the event to highlight how adoption can give a child a forever home, with all family members dressed in Jamir’s favorite red. WKBN
- ➤ The Mahoning County Probate Court, Mahoning County Children Services and Judge Robert Rusu Jr. hosted the 12th annual Adoption Day Celebration on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mahoning County Courthouse on Market Street— the event highlighted 22 children in foster care seeking adoptive families during National Adoption Month. - ➤ The Tyler History Center's exhibit, 'This is Youngstown', is a photo documentary by local photographer Tony Nicholas — it displays 40 portraits that honor the Hispanic community in the Mahoning Valley. The exhibit will run until February 2 — and half-priced admission is available until November 14. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Youngstown State University became the first college in Ohio to earn the Foundry Educational Foundation certification—one of six nationwide—which honors its metalcasting and foundry programs while paving the way for advanced manufacturing opportunities.
