COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Arab American Community Center of Youngstown will host a turkey giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at 15 Belgrade Ave — partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley to offer one free turkey per vehicle to the first 200 vehicles and support local families facing seasonal challenges. - ➤ A portion of the Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway will be closed Friday for asphalt maintenance on the bike trail from Kirk Road in Austintown to Herbert Road in Canfield. The Kirk Road Trailhead remains open for parking and access — work is expected to finish within one day unless inclement weather forces a delay. WKBN
- ➤ Kenneth David and Jim Kerr were inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame this morning for their outstanding post-military service. David from Trumbull County (a Medal of Honor recipient) and Kerr from Columbiana County, a longtime educator and conservationist, were honored among a group of 20 inductees. WKBN

- ➤ Iron City Wood Products in Youngstown earned a national Women’s Business Enterprise certification from the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council — which confirms the company is over 51% women owned — and the certification supports its commitment to innovation, sustainability and growth. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Millennial Theater Company presents 'Stranger Sings'—a musical parody of 'Stranger Things' that features local actors at Youngstown Playhouse. The show opens today and runs over three weekends with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. WKBN
- ➤ New Castle native Jens Lee will return next month to play the Cavalier in Nutcracker—he will perform with over 100 children and the Youngstown Symphony. Lee began his dance career 25 years ago while he was a nursing student at Youngstown State and said his return is a humbling homecoming. WKBN
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The PNC Foundation approved a two-year, $100,000 grant to the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber to improve job access for local residents in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys — the funding builds on past support to remove key employment barriers like transportation, childcare, and health challenges. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Holocaust survivor Erika T. Gold, with her daughter Marilyn Zaas, spoke to about 1,000 students at Stambaugh Auditorium on November 6 sharing her experiences during World War II + describing her escape and family loss. The session, hosted by the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation + attended by students from 12 regional schools, urged the youth to vote and study to combat prejudice. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Youngstown State University’s Student Investment Fund received an extra $1.5 million from the YSU Foundation Board — with $500,000 paid in increments over three years to boost its portfolio. The new funds will help the team invest in fixed-income assets and join competitions in New York and Chicago. WFMJ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor DeWine announced that $7 million in state funds was distributed to nine regional food banks, with Second Harvest Foodbank receiving $427,437.50 + payments were made according to SNAP caseloads. New federal guidance means SNAP benefits will not be available this week and up to $18 million in emergency aid will help over 63,000 Ohioans while the WIC program received $10.3 million in USDA funds + first relief payments come by today. - ➤ Austintown Township is holding open interviews for Road Department jobs at the Township Hall on November 13 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.—positions start at $23.64 per hour and require a valid driver’s license, a township application, a pre-employment drug test, and availability for overtime, nights and weekends. - ➤ Governor Mike DeWine announced on Thursday that Ohio is funding the Ohio Works First program and local food banks to ease the federal shutdown by reviewing plans for partial SNAP benefits. Second Harvest Food Bank will receive $427,437.50 and USDA funds of $10.3 million will keep WIC benefits running into December—emergency relief will reach OWF recipients today and monthly benefits will double if the shutdown lasts all of November.
