COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In Liberty, the Girard-Liberty Rotary Club donated $3,000 to the Liberty Local Schools Food Pantry to help families and students facing food insecurity. The donation was celebrated last month at the school—supporting programs that provide food and essential supplies for those in need.  The Vindicator
  • On November 14, organizers provided a free Thanksgiving dinner for 200 Youngstown residents and delivered meals to another 100 while praising generous donations from local churches and individuals—today they will host another meal at 2110 Glenwood Avenue at the Jaylex Event Center.  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Members of Youngstown’s Energy Special Improvement District approved a financing package that will provide $5.5 million for energy-efficient upgrades at Huntington Bank Tower— the project, which will add 71 mixed-use units, is pending city council approval.  WKBN
  • Slow Hurry Coffee has joined Stylogarten Barber Studio on Market Street in Boardman to serve locally roasted coffee and bagels made by Noble Creature. The two businesses hope the collaboration will revive the barbershop as a community hub — welcoming all customers during the winter months.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Arms Family Museum presents its 17th 'Memories of Christmas Past' exhibit — showcasing Idora Park artifacts, a Krampus display and holiday pop culture — running today through Dec. 31 with hours from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and extended hours on Thursdays, while admission is $10 for adults.  The Vindicator

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduating BFA students at Youngstown State University will host a fall exhibition at the John J. McDonough Museum of Art from Nov.21–Dec.13 with an opening reception on Nov.21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The free exhibition is open to the public and the museum operates Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m.–4 p.m.  WKBN
  • Campbell City Schools will host a job fair on November 20 from 3-5 p.m. at the Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center in Lowellville — the event will connect job seekers with local employers, workforce agencies, and community organizations.  WKBN
  • Students at South Side Academy invited Youngstown firefighters to a S’mores cookout—students received base cards with photos and brief biographies and got autographs from their heroes. Dean Marquita Dixson said the Friday event was designed to build trust and lessen fear of authority figures.  WKBN
  • The Weathersfield Local School District announced Mineral Ridge High School was named one of America’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report. The school was ranked 114th in Ohio and is the highest in Trumbull County — its strong programs and 96% graduation rate earned the honor.  Tribune Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A data center developer is asking the Ohio Supreme Court to overturn Lordstown’s ban on data centers because its review process for a long-used industrial site was stopped when the council voted on Nov 3. Bristolville 25 Developer and BHGH Properties plan a project over 133 acres that would add 120 jobs and are seeking a writ of mandamus to force a quicker response from the village — they want the zoning permit review to resume.  WKBN
  • Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation Director Pamela Boratyn announced a $13.5 million investment for 28 transit projects, and the Western Reserve Transit Authority received over $225,000 to add peak-hour service every 30 minutes between Youngstown and Warren — a move that aims to improve access to jobs, education, and local businesses.  WFMJ
  • The Youngstown VA clinic will end its long-running PTSD support group next week—its meeting space will be used for a new infusion clinic, leaving veterans who have relied on the group since 1997 with few support options. Some members worry that the change will increase isolation and worsen mental health issues, and they questioned the VA’s decision.  WFMJ
  • The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said it will restore full SNAP benefits for November by mid-next week. Households will get their full benefit — minus any partial payments already made.  WFMJ

  • Altobelli Real Estate and Home & Land Developers LLC launched 32 building lots in Kline’s Farm on Thursday in Liberty Township to ease the housing shortage amid new business and infrastructure growth — a move praised by local officials. The expansion is expected to support local job growth and attract new residents.  The Vindicator
