COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Warren Family Mission in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Trumbull County Fair Board will hold an emergency drive-thru food giveaway at the county fairgrounds in Bazetta today starting at 10 a.m.—the event is open on a first come, first served basis with supplies for up to 1,000 cars.  WKBN
  • Local families in Warren received Thanksgiving turkeys from KNR law firm's 13th annual Coats + Cans for Kids campaign, which also collected thousands of coats and canned goods to help Ohioans in need. The giveaway held at Willard Elementary has provided over 600,000 meals and 12,000 turkeys in previous years.  WFMJ
  • A series of holiday events are taking place across the Valley with tree lightings, parades and craft markets in cities like Sharon, Hermitage and Youngstown — many family runs and festive gatherings include local food stands and ticketed admission. Organizers offer a mix of free activities and paid attractions to bring the community together this season.  WFMJ
  • Trumbull County Children Services celebrated National Adoption Day as the Fields family finalized the adoption of their two-year-old son, Corbin, making him their sixth and youngest child. The agency reported that 14 children were adopted this year—11 more adoptions will be finalized soon while about 24 children still need a loving family.  WKBN

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday, the Andrews Avenue Memory Mural in Youngstown received a wall decal that marks its selection for an interactive map on the America 250-Ohio website—an honor that adds to the Murals Across Ohio program. Decals will also be added at Vallourec’s main entrance and on the Trek mural on Mahoning Avenue.  WKBN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dani Robbins was introduced as the new head of Lake to River Economic Development during a media event on Friday in Youngstown—she said the role fits her career well. She will start work on December 1 and plans to listen to local leaders to help four counties work together to grow business opportunities.  WKBN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Youngstown State University agreed to take over nearly 13 acres of the former Eastern Gateway campus in Steubenville to expand education options in Jefferson County — the school plans an open house in January and will begin classes in summer 2026.  WKBN
  • The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will close the Michael Kusalaba Branch from Dec. 1 to Dec. 8 to let staff and contractors finish a major floor plan redesign. The project will transform the branch into the area’s first certified Family Place Library — a center for early childhood development, parent support and family learning.  The Vindicator
  • Students from Poland Seminary High School participated in a mock trial at the Mahoning County Courthouse Friday morning. Led by prosecutor Lynn Maro — assisted by legal professionals — the event offered the students a chance to experience real courtroom roles.  WKBN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Youngstown State University will design and operate a $20 million first responder training center in East Palestine funded by Norfolk Southern. Governor Mike DeWine announced the project to boost hazardous material training for firefighters after the 2023 train derailment and explosion.  WFMJ
  • Updated plans for the first responder training center in East Palestine were released Friday. Norfolk Southern will provide $20 million to Youngstown State University to design, build, and operate the facility—local emergency agencies will get free, priority access and YSU students will benefit from new fire and rescue training programs.  WKBN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Insight hospital in Warren lost its Medicare and Medicaid certification on October 10 and reopened on October 14 without having the certification restored — a CMS source confirmed the gap, leaving patients liable for full billing while union representatives stressed the need for transparency.  WFMJ
