COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley is busy getting ready for Thanksgiving by offering a buffet meal in two sessions to its 174 residents and others in need. President John Muckridge (head of the mission) said they are working with local agencies to handle extra demand and plan to increase capacity from 186 to 354 beds (adding 12 new homes) using community donations. - ➤ Greenwood Chevrolet donated food items and a $25,000 check to Second Harvest Food Bank on Monday in its showroom—three trucks filled with community donations from the Extra Mile Food Drive that ran from October 13 through November 20 will help provide over 130,000 meals for the holiday season. WKBN
- ➤ Two Youngstown brothers, aged 7 and 9, turned a swear jar idea into nearly $100 for the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. The Philliban family delivered the donation to the shelter & saw firsthand how it would help provide meals and safe shelter for those in need. WFMJ
- ➤ Local organizations are accepting donations to help about 140 residents displaced by the Phoenix House explosion in Austintown. United Way is asking for monetary donations while the Austintown Senior Center, Lakeside Realty and Animal Charity of Ohio collect clothing, toiletries and pet supplies—items needed through the end of this week. - ➤ West Century 21 Lakeside Realty in Austintown is accepting clothing, toiletries and basic essentials donations to support Phoenix House residents affected by the apartment explosion. Donations may be dropped off (253 S Canfield-Niles Road, Suite A). WKBN

- ➤ Craig Hockenberry—superintendent of the Poland Local School District—will begin a medical leave on December 1 to treat his esophageal cancer and plans to retire on August 31. The board named acting deputy superintendent Maria Hoffmaster to lead the district until an interim superintendent is chosen. The Vindicator
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership was approved for $712,190 in grant funds for its Emergency Home Repair Program, which will help at least 40 income-qualifying homeowners fix roofs, HVAC systems, and improve handicap accessibility—part of efforts that have supported over $895 million in affordable housing since 1990. - ➤ Norfolk Southern, the state and Youngstown State University revived plans for a $20 million first responder training center near East Palestine after the worst derailment in a decade. The center will help train firefighters and first responders for emergencies—offering free access to local responders and supporting recovery efforts. WFMJ

- ➤ Browns legend Bernie Kosar is expected to be released from the hospital later today after he received a liver transplant last Monday at University Hospitals—he has been saying he feels 'amazing' since the surgery—and his family thanked the donor for helping his recovery. WKBN
