- ➤ Goodwill and Penguin City Brewing decorated over a dozen Christmas trees donated by Goodwill customers on Monday afternoon in downtown Youngstown—these trees will be on display starting Dec. 3 and sold to support mission services including emergency vouchers and Austintown senior services. WFMJ
- ➤ Community events fill the week as Howland Library hosts a Holiday Party Wednesday, December 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a school choir and Santa arriving at 7 p.m., and Warren Family Mission accepts new, unwrapped toys until December 9. A lawn mower winterization runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while a Snowman Paint and Sip in Warren Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.—a Women’s Connection meeting with inspirational speaker Connie Rhodebeck on Monday at DiLucia’s Banquet Center and Walk with a Doc at Southern Park Mall from 10 to 11 a.m.—round out the local schedule. - ➤ Dylan's House in Youngstown gave $500 grants to 10 caregivers Monday as part of its Professional Caregiver Grant Program to support families with autistic adults. The nonprofit—co-founded by Kevin and Amy Shope—has provided $28,000 in grants and is fundraising for its first new supported home. WFMJ

- ➤ Vallourec received credit rating upgrades from Moody’s and S&P Global last week—Moody’s raised its issuer rating from Ba1 to Baa3 while S&P Global upgraded its ratings from BB+/B to BBB-/A-3. The company said its mill in Youngstown helped its performance and it expects its restructuring plan to boost cash conversion in the future. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ HBK CPAs and Consultants in Canfield announced Monday that Maryland accounting firm McLean, Koehler, Sparks and Hammond joined its team. The deal adds about 30 professionals and opens HBK’s first Maryland offices in Timonium and Frederick—boosting its regional reach. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Kravitz Deli purchased a new location at 127 Penn Avenue in Salem after closing its McKinley Avenue Garden Cafe. Owner Matt Rydarowicz said the deli will offer mainly to-go options—limited seating and deals for St. Patrick's Day—and will open in late winter or early spring 2026. WFMJ

- ➤ A new mural built by Youngstown State University students, seniors, and local community members is now on display at the Butler Institute of American Art. The project was led by Professors Dan Van Dussen and Dragana Crnjak — over 50 participants joined painting sessions that shared memories and strengthened intergenerational ties. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new children's eyesight program will soon offer free vision services to kindergarten through third grade students in Mahoning County as part of the OhioSEE pilot program—Governor DeWine announced the initiative through his executive budget, and the program is set to help roughly 14,000 students each year starting early 2026.
