COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ LIUNA Local 125 donated $4,100 to Second Harvest Food Bank on Wednesday at 2805 Salt Springs Road in Youngstown. The donation, delivered by union officials (Rich Troisi and Dennis Brown), supports local families, seniors, veterans and children in need of nutritious food across the Mahoning Valley. - ➤ Nearly 80 children and adults ran in two events this week in McDonald to raise over $2,000 for Second Harvest Food Bank, organized by three local high school seniors as a senior project. Registration fees and sponsors provided the funds for the effort. The Vindicator
- ➤ Four-year-old Journie Minotti-Judeh launched a toy drive in Youngstown on Nov. 10—prompting her family and friends to donate over 100 toys and raise $170 as the drive continues until Sunday, Dec. 7. WFMJ
- ➤ Champion Township hosts its third annual Christmas tree lighting at 240 Marshall Ave from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday with food trucks, Santa photos and a charity raffle for high school scholarships. Champion High School holds a shoe drive (Dec. 8-Feb. 7) as local library offers holiday gift wrapping Friday. Tribune Chronicle

- ➤ The Boardman Value City Furniture store remains open at 443 Boardman Poland Road even as its parent company filed for Chapter 11 and plans closing sales at other Ohio locations and in nearby states; the store is operating normally & accepting returns until Dec. 7. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Sebring McKinley students led a November drive to deliver food, pantry staples, and hygiene supplies to 36 local families. The Student Senate groups partnered with school clubs to package and distribute care items to help families during the holiday season. WFMJ
- ➤ Twenty local youth were honored at Wednesday’s Twenty Under 20 awards dinner held at DiVieste’s Banquet Center. Newton Falls High School senior Ellie Falb was the top honoree (winning $500 for her charity) as over 230 attendees celebrated youth community service. Tribune Chronicle
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Newton Falls native Jeanne Bryner received the Daniel J. Pesut Spirit of Renewal Award at Sigma’s biannual convention in Indianapolis—recognizing her long nursing career and efforts in community workshops and reflective writing. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Southwoods Health expanded into Trumbull County with Howland Specialty Care opening on Oct. 27 at 8740 E. Market St. in Howland; the new facility offers seven specialty services (cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopaedics, pain management, pediatric gastroenterology and spine) as part of a network of over 300 local providers. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The Persayus Way Project will build up to 14 affordable homes in Ward 2 along Gray, Armstrong, and Colby Avenues — with leftover funds used for college tuition. The nonprofit plans to break ground before the end of 2027 and seeks donations and volunteer support. WFMJ

- ➤ YSU (Penguins) won a close conference opener against Wright State 69-68 on Wednesday at the Beeghly Center. Redshirt junior Rich Rolf hit two game-winning free throws with nine seconds left, setting up a strong start in Horizon League play. The Vindicator
