- ➤ Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. received a $483,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to fund the Glenwood Fresh Market at 2915 Glenwood Ave, which will offer free fresh produce for three years to residents meeting income criteria. The Vindicator
- ➤ Poland Historical Society is advancing plans for America’s 250th celebration by donating $10,000 toward a bronze statue of a young William McKinley. The statue will be unveiled at an upscale soiree on Oct. 10, 2026 at Village Hall, pending final details from the council + donors. The Vindicator
- ➤ At Pieton’s 7P Trees – Christmas Tree Farm, local families continue a long-held tradition of selecting their perfect tree through frosty weather. The farm now offers fresh-cut trees and will host a Visit with Santa event Sunday, noon to 3 p.m. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ The Diocese of Youngstown announced that three churches (St. Jude, Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbiana and St. Patrick in Leetonia) will merge into one parish effective Jan. 1, 2026. Bishop Bonnar noted a shortage of priests and declining attendance and appointed Rev. Chad Johnson as pastor. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ The Newton Falls Preservation Foundation installed three large canal signs late summer to mark historic dams and industry sites in downtown and Veterans’ Park. The signs (made by Pannier Company) display images and facts funded by a $3,000 grant from the Canal Society. Tribune Chronicle
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 15th Youngstown Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting was held Friday downtown and drew thousands despite chilly weather. Nearly 100 decorated floats and 13 marching bands paraded along a route from Covelli Centre to Vindicator Square as local vendors and festive activities engaged the crowd. The Vindicator
- ➤ At the Butler Institute of American Art, the board announced that interim director Larry W. Jones—a native of Austintown—took over for longtime executive director Louis A. Zona, who remains as director emeritus, and the museum will begin an international search for a permanent replacement. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Tyler Stouffer has been named managing director of Youngstown Playhouse (101st season) after directing its last two musicals. He will work part-time until he goes full-time in spring 2026 and will lead marketing, fundraising, social media, and development as the theater plans upcoming productions. Tribune Chronicle

- ➤ Chaney Middle School students won best short film at the Friends4Friends Film Festival for their film on dating abuse (developed from monthly student meetings) at DeYor Performing Arts Center. The Vindicator
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Trumbull County's dog warden, Michelle Goss, signaled her intent to resign and commissioners are now searching for a replacement and an assistant as they plan to relocate the animal shelter at 7501 Anderson Ave. in Warren. Goss may formally resign as soon as this weekend. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Local residents gathered outside the closed Insight Hospital and Medical Center Trumbull in Warren on Friday to urge Sen. Jon Husted to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits amid rising premiums. The credits, which benefit about 583,000 Ohioans, expire at month-end and a Senate vote is expected next week.
