New Life Church in Poland hosted its Winter Carnival on Friday at 2250 East Western Reserve Road — the event offered food trucks, a coffee truck, cookie decorating, superhero photo ops, face painting, two sleigh rides, bingo and ax-throwing — and it has grown over its three-year run.
Volunteers and staff at Home Instead Senior Care in Austintown wrapped gifts for over 940 seniors in the Mahoning Valley on Thursday and Friday; the presents, which include essentials like blankets and toiletries, will be delivered to nursing homes, senior centers and other facilities before Christmas.
Inspiring Minds has received a 2025 Chevrolet Express Passenger Van for its enrichment programs for underrepresented students after fundraising with Ultium Cells, GM Cares, and community partners.
The extra $4,360 will cover maintenance, insurance, and decals and support more trips for about 200 kids in the Mahoning Valley.
Don and Grace Murphy celebrated 75 years of marriage at Bazetta Christian Church with family and neighbors.
The couple, age 93, received warm tributes for their lifelong commitment to each other and community service, and a private family gathering is planned at their historic home near the fairgrounds.

South Range Local School District announced that U.S. News and World Report named South Range Elementary and Middle School among the nation’s best after they ranked in the top 40% statewide.
The recognition highlights the district’s strong community support and dedicated staff.

A Liberty resident raised concerns about zoning at a township meeting regarding an abandoned gas station on Tibbetts Wick Road, and officials including new inspector Melissa Ritchie (appointed in August) said documented violations could result in fines if the property is not corrected within 30 days.
The Ohio Board of Pharmacy banned kratom-related products on Friday, Dec.
12, 2025, under an emergency rule that makes all compounds aside from pure mitragynine illegal for 180 days while a permanent ban is considered. Retailers must dispose of banned items immediately.

On Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, the Youngstown Little Bears won the Pop Warner Super Bowl championship in Charlotte by defeating the West Boynton Wolfpack from Florida 33-0.
They clinched the title after a strong season in the 9U bracket.
Mineral Ridge's boys basketball team beat Springfield 39-29 at Mineral Ridge High School on Thursday night.
Derrick Hester led the Rams with 12 points as they built a big lead from the third quarter onward.
Recent high school sports contests showed Western Reserve edged Lowellville 55-50 in boys basketball as Connor Cochran scored 19, while Lakeview won 67-48 over South Range in girls play; Lisbon beat Wellsville 61-25 on Wednesday & Crestview edged Champion 2330-2323 in boys bowling.
