  • CIRV’s Hope for the Holidays Gift Campaign worked with local police and fire departments on Friday morning to load gifts onto a WRTA bus and deliver them across town to families affected by violence + residents received a boost of holiday cheer.  WFMJ
  • Volunteers at Choffin Career and Technical Center wrapped an estimated 1,100 donated toys and hygiene kits on Friday for Akron Children’s patients after inclement weather delayed the toy drive from Monday. Local sorority and fraternity groups helped pack items for a wide age range (newborns to young adults).  The Vindicator

  • The family-run Suzanne’s in Boardman celebrated 50 years after opening as a tennis shop in 1975 during a tough economic downturn. It now offers women’s apparel, including Softies lounge wear favored by Oprah, and continues to thrive with support from family members.  The Vindicator
  • After nearly 50 years, Livi Steel in Warren rebranded and launched a new website to show its expanded capabilities. The family business now uses new machines like PythonX and PeddiAssembler to take on larger projects for clients including Amazon and Kimberly-Clark.  The Vindicator
  • Carmen’s Pizza on Youngstown-Warren Road reopened Saturday morning at 11 a.m. under new ownership (Sean and Mary Walker), keeping its classic menu and longtime staff. The community favorite since 1965 will continue serving trusted recipes for local fans.  Tribune Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • YLIVE will return to Youngstown State University’s Stambaugh Stadium on July 10 and 11, 2026 with two evening concerts. Lineup details will be announced in January and the event will share the weekend with YSU’s Summer Festival of the Arts.  The Vindicator
  • OH WOW! Science Center changed its membership structure from individual plans to three tiers—Two of Us, Family, and Family+—to provide affordable, family-friendly options with unlimited visits and guest upgrades, and a 10% discount is offered on memberships through Dec. 31.  WFMJ

  • A Canfield man known only as Bryan won a $50,000 Powerball prize after buying his ticket at a Meijer on Boardman-Canfield Rd. in Boardman — he will net $36,437.50 after tax withholdings, and his win comes just days before the holidays.  WFMJ

  • A nearly $3 million lakefront home has been listed in Milton Township as buyers from Cleveland and Pittsburgh drive local growth. The 5,500 sqft property, one of the area’s earliest upscale builds, features quality construction (I-beams, rebar) and expansive decks.  The Vindicator

  • Youngstown State senior volleyball player Abbie Householder was named Horizon League’s Female Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Season on Thursday for her academic and athletic achievements this fall. She became the second Penguin in school history to receive the honor amid three consecutive award days.  The Vindicator
  • Chaney beat East 68-54 on Friday night as the Cowboys, led by Asuante Mickel's 24 points, overcame an early surge to gain bragging rights. They will look to build on this win in their season series.  The Vindicator
  • At Western Reserve High School on Thursday night, the girls basketball team won 53-51 over Mineral Ridge when Chloeigh Endsley hit a buzzer-beater hook shot, sparking celebration — fans now anticipate a rematch on Jan. 26 in Weathersfield.  The Vindicator
