  • A manufacturing firm using induction heating equipment at 1058 Ohio Works Drive changed hands in an asset purchase that retains all jobs and keeps founder Tom Kearney on board for six months. Extrutec North America, the U.S. arm of a German supplier, will expand service offerings for American customers.  Tribune Chronicle
  • The Boardman location of Rise Pies, the chain's first opened in 2014, will close soon at The Shops at Boardman Park on Boardman-Poland Road after over 10 years of service — Muransky Co. has not yet given a closure date or reason.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Kwanzaa celebrations began on Friday at New Bethel Baptist Church with music, dancing and cultural expression and continue today at East Side Library at 2 p.m. with a book exchange and writing workshop — other events resume Sunday at Beulah Baptist Church and Tuesday at Belmont Avenue featuring a film screening.  WFMJ

  • Youngstown State University completed a comprehensive export trend study covering Ohio data from 2018 to 2024.   • Santa Claus marks his 15th annual visit to Liberty Schools by bringing holiday cheer and donating gifts to kindergarten classes, ensuring every child’s inclusion.   • Jamie Alcroft, a double-organ recipient and comedian from Mahoning Valley, will be featured on the One Legacy float at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day to promote organ donation. He aims to honor donors and encourage registration to save lives.  Tribune Chronicle

  • Youngstown State's redshirt freshmen Baker and Cameron are back playing and helping the Penguins improve with an 8-4 record during the holiday break.
