Halloween Weekend runs Saturday and Sunday at Mosquito Lake State Park in Bazetta with wagon rides, chalk art and family fun from noon to 3 p.m. Plus, the Warren City Health District hosts Wellness on Wheels at Perkins Park and back-to-school immunization clinics Monday at its Market Street center.
Lauren Mathews leads the new nonprofit Warren Library Friends that supports the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library.
The group will host a meet & greet with Akron author Amanda Flower on Oct. 20 and meet again on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. in the Harding meeting room.

Layne's Chicken Fingers will hold its grand opening this weekend in Youngstown — the new eatery plans to serve chicken finger dishes and sides to local guests looking for a unique flavor experience.
Niles aluminum supplier BRT Extrusions was bought by Can Art Aluminum Extrusions after a letter was sent to customers earlier this week.
The combined company (with more than 1,000 employees and 15 extrusion presses) will operate from 10 locations.

Ohio guitarist Carl Baldassarre will lead The Baldasarre Orchestra’s orchestral show at Robins Theatre next weekend on Saturday, Oct.
3; doors open at 6:30 p.m. (general admission) and 5:30 p.m. (Robins Club members).
🎓 Education
Former trustee Rex Fee presented a portrait of NFL Randy Gradishar (a 1970 graduate) to the Champion Board of Education this week, and the photo will be displayed near the high school gym.
Board members supported expanding honors for Gradishar, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Thousands of students from Mahoning and Shenango Valleys attended a skilled trades expo in Canfield on Sep 23, exploring over a dozen trades + learning how to earn while they learn.
Ken Reid from the Builders Association said the event positively impacted the local workforce.
At Monday's board meeting, the Educational Service Center approved a $45,566 van for courier service, designated a delegate for the state school boards conference, and finalized agreements for preschool services, a drone racing event on April 17, a STEAM program, and career navigation services, plus a special ed supervisor hire.

Tire dumping is on the rise in Warren as abandoned tires are increasingly seen on streets and empty lots.

The City of Youngstown and Liberty Township hosted an open house Wednesday, Sept.
23 at the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission (1915 Belmont Avenue) to share the Belmont Corridor Study's recommendations for improving the four-mile corridor linking downtown and Liberty Township, focusing on transportation, safety, and the local economy.
A stretch of Stateline Road in Poland and Springfield Townships will be closed from Monday, Sept.
28 to Wednesday, Sept. 30 for culvert replacements — drivers should use a detour via Calla Road, Struthers Road, Route 224, and Styme Road.

Canfield girls soccer edged Boardman 1-0 on Wednesday, Sept.
23 at its home field — a key win that boosts team season goals.
Youngstown State will earn $325,000 on Aug.
28, 2027 & $400,000 on Aug. 27, 2033 for football games at Toledo's Glass Bowl; this marks the Penguins' first MAC game since 2003.
